I was looking at the M4 16" 1/7 twist chrome lined barrels from CMMG, and am wondering if anyone has bought any of these, and what your experience is with it?

I really want a 16" 1/7 barrel, don't want to pay $400 for a new Colt barrel, and the Bushmaster order doesn't look like it'll make the 200 barrels needed...so, I was looking around the site here and saw mention of the CMMG barrel, which looks alright.

So?

I have a couple of the 14.5" 1:7 twist barrels from CMMG and they're great!  The only downside is the cast front sight so you'll have to decide if that's important to you.  I had one of mine replaced with a forged unit and I left the other one alone.

Here's a couples threads by Yojimbo you should check out: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=12&t=164401

Thanks for the links.  Who did the cast front sight assy for you? Cost?

Looks like I may skip the unlikely Bushmaster production run and go with the CMMG barrel.

Bushmaster, you're behind the curve AGAIN.

Those are great barrels. Buddy of mine shot yesterday consistently 1.5- 2 MOA groups to 300 meters- with iron sights (ARMS #40). Ammo was SA surplus.
He is very happy man.

Kurt did mine for $35 but I believe Steve @ ADCO does it too.  Either or, both are outstanding guys that do incredible work.

Please don't give up on the Bushmaster Special Run.  Jarrod extended the period until the end of February and I believe we're going to meet that number after the holidays are over.  Please are just apprehensive about spending the money so close to Christmas.  I have one on order and I'm going to order one more just to set aside for later.

However, if you can't wait (and I certainly understand) then you will be very happy with the CMMG/DPMS barrel.

I actually need 2 barrels - one to replace a Colt 16" M4 1/9 I have, because I've discovered that it isn't chrome lined. So I need a replacement for that, plus a spare.

If I get one from CMMG, I might put one on the Bushmaster order, since I'll have one to shoot anyways. The second is a spare, because I see efforts to ban "assault weapon" parts sales looming. Yeah, a barrel might last me 10+ years, but I've got 20-30 years of shooting still in me :)

It probably wouldn't be a bad idea for those who can, to get parts and barrels to hold, in anticipation of being screwed over by the pols.

Doesn't CMMG make the barrels for Colt??

Actually DMPS makes the barrels that CMMG sells.  For some reason DPMS doesn't sell chrome-lined barrels but instead let's CMMG sell them.  Works for me because I really like Jeff & John so I'm happy to give them my business.

Another positive vote for the CMMG/DPMS barrels, though mine is 14.5".  No problems thus far, CMMG guys are great to deal with.  If you want a true M4 barrel, this is really the only option at this time, IMO.

I have both the CMMG and Bushmaster 14.5", 1/7's and, except for the FSB on the DPMS, they are pretty much the same.

Thanks for the kind words guys.  We now have in stock CMMG marked barrels.  They are stamped:

CMMG MPC 5.56 NATO 1/7

and are of course chrome lined.

i got one from jeff at cmmg, i cant say how satisfied i am with its performance and quality of the 16" 1:7 upper. i wish it came with a forged front sight though.. the only problem i had was when i used some of that shitty spanish ss109 surplus ammo. not a problem related with the upper just shitty ammo. and by the way great customer service and a pleasure to deal with ,especially jeff at cmmg and buy some quick clot from cmmg just in case you are so happy with the purchase of the upper that you start to hemorage!
