Not sure where to post this so I thought I would start here.
I stopped by Battlefield Rifles.com and there was someone who said they had pics of the new KAC RAS for a M14.

Anyone have any info or pics of this new set up??

Thanks for any info

Hm, do you mean Troy Industry's M14 mod?

If so, www.troyind.com/

KAC does indeed make a M14 RAS, it is in their Military catalogue.
I do not have a photo of it handy

I saw it at the shot show and have been trying to forget about it ever since as I know I can probably never get one. It was bad ass!!

I checked KAC's web page and it is listed but no pic.

Now I REALLY want to see a pic of one.Surely MSTN or SMGLEE has a pic of one.

Arfcomers dont fail me now.

Sorry for the off topic, but what would you guys consider the best .308 rifle of the 3 listed below?

1. H&K
2. DSA FAL
3. SA M-21 Tactical

For what role?

I would pick different one for the different roles.

What about the SR25 or AR10?

Good question Kev!

500 yrds tactical use. Want something other than AR type gun in 308. I like it in 5.56mm.
I like variety.
I have a
1. Colt M4 type carbine 14.5".
2. Colt AR15A2 HBAR 20".
3. M1 Carbine.
4. M1 Garand.
5. Model A Uzi 10.5".
6. Australia 303. ICK! Gun sucks ass!
7. Too many pistols to name.

Time for a 7.62mm.

I have never had great luck with accurate FN's...

I would got the SA M1A route - McMillan M3A stock, ARMS #18 mount etc...

BEEN THERE DONE THAT.

THE ONLY 2 GUNS THAT SELF-LOAD AND COMPETE WITH MODERN SNIPER WEAPONS ARE:

AR-10/SR-25

TROY SOPMOD M-14

I built a M1A once (SA supermatch modded and worth $3800) and it still shot worse than a Ar-10 T (about 1-1.5MOA) and it (with Bi-pod sling, loaded mag and scope) weighed in at 22.5lbs!!!!!!  The $1600 Ar-10 T weighs about 10.5lbs. (or about 15lbs with a bi-pod, sling, and scope) The Troy M-14 weighs about 8.5lbs (probably 13 with optics and bi-pod) and from what I here it will give a M24 or M40A3 a run for its money.

The M1A bush rifle with RAS is a good way to give a soldier .308 power and range as long as extreme precision is not needed. expect 1.75-3MOA with anything less than $3500-$5000

I know there are units in the military that still use the M-14 (mostly highly modified examples ) all I can say is better them than me. The rifle has serious maintenance issues (lots of parts to cleaned lubricated and protected from corrosion, some parts that need to be greased (attracting dirt and sand) bedding that is easilly damaged by removing the action from the stock for routine maintenance, Tools are needed for cleaning the gas system, Scope mounting issues, etc.

The Ar-10/Sr-25 is a much better option for the field and my bet is that troubles with procurement, and procurement funds are all that are keeping units from fielding them.

I have never seen a Troy SOPMOD M14  - maybe I did(was there one at SHOT or was it SAGE's?).
But have never had one in a field environment so I dont feel qualifed to rule on it.

The SR-25 family I believe is king of the 7.62mm gas gun roost - in the Mk11 and 25K renditions.

As for what Spooge asked for a tactical 500m and less gas gun, that is not an AR platform.  The M1A's can fill the bill very well.  Yes they need TLC - but he does not seem to intend this as a field gun...

I am curious now if the M14RAS works with the M3A stock...

I'm the one with the M14 RAS pic. It was graciously provided to me by Cold blue. Check back on the battlerifles forum as it should be getting posted there soon.

Wow KAC can improve anything. It looks like that may clear up some of the scope mounting issues. May anyway.

It's funny to see a M-14 mounting a PEQ-2. Old meets modern.

Would be kinda fun to trick out your M14, and have been thinking of putting a Aimpoint on mine, but I dunna know.

Any how, won't be me first on this, heck I just recently decided this would be the last deer season I will use iron sights on my AR-10 (and having second thoughts on that).

I don’t know how excited I am about this RAS for the M14 either; I probably need to see first hand or at least get some feedback on them.

As far as mounting an Aimpoint, there are a couple other ways to do it.

A standard scope mount by Smith Enterprise or A.R.M.S. could be used.

Or on a Springfield Armory Inc. scout mount.

Hmmmmm.  That rifle looks a lot like the one we just got from Uncle Sam.  [:D]  Without all of those added items, of course.  Don't think I'd be able to get the Chief to spring for the rail system though.

Will it fit with a Mc M3A stock?

Kevin,

Id think not.  It looks like the side rails extend down to the sides of the forearm.  Isnt the Mac oversized?
