Just got the new ACE SOCOM M4 collapsable stock purchased directly from ACE Ltd.
(www.riflestocks.com) for $184.95 plus S&H. The stock is an adjustable, all metal stock made of machined aluminum. It weighs 16.5 oz w/o butt pad. It requires the Carbine length buffer and spring (not included, but available on their website). The stock comes with your choice of a one inch or a one-half inch butt pad. There is no discernable rattle, but, manipulating the stock (to open or close) takes some effort. According to the instructions that accompanied the unit, with time, the stock will "break-in" and become easier to manipulate. There is a provision to remove the adjustability and configure it as a fixed position stock. Please note: this has NOT been approved by the ATF for legal post-ban use. I do not have a Magpul or a VLTOR to compare it to so I cannot be more of a help there. I will say that the stock is VERY solid and one could butt-stroke/club someone with it and not damage the stock or weapon. All in all, a good stock.

7.5-9.5 WOW (lots of telescoping action there) 2 inches.  That looks like when extended to full length there is not much keeping it rigid either.  

I don't know if I really think any collapsible on the market fully extended would be a good case fore buttstroking. They get their strength when they are collapsed. I think that a Crane or Vltor collapsed is pretty strong but the Colt buffer tubes aren't very thick, I really think I would rather keep mine stoked with ammo or deliver a muzzle strike.

Wow, that's alot of beans considering what's available now in that price range.Looks like a collapsible stubby stock.

Yeah, I see the issue about the pics. I looked today and discovered Yahoo does not "share" pics bigger that 400x whatever pixels. I'll put lower res stuff in tomorrow. As for the stock's robustness (is that the correct word?), the tube [i]appears[/i] thicker that a standard carbine buffer tube. Additionally, the weight of the stock (at just over 1 pound) will aid in its ability to deliver pain. Granted, I am not going to be popping someone over the head with this thing, I just mentioned its 'strokability' for info purposes. Some might feel $185 is a little high considering what else is out there, but, I disagree. This stock will last and I have complete confidence in it. As I stated earlier, I'll fix those darn pics (friggin Yahoo).

That 1lb will help bring back the balance anyway.

All my fourth generation AR's are muzzle heavy, accessories, RAS's, grips, bi-pods, flashlights, suppressors. All make the AR muzzle heavy. (This wasn't a problem with the A2 with std guards).
