I just traded a guy a cetme for a colt lightweight sporter. The rifle has a birdcage flash hider, but no bayonet lug.This rifle is in like new condition, and the previous owner said he had only fired 200 rnds through it. He said it was bought new in 90 or 91. Ser # is SL004*** and from what I have read, this appears to be a pre ban weapon. This rifle has a very thin barrel, and it has a 1 in 7 twist.  I have 2 real questions. Can I put a collapsable stock on this, and is the 1 in 7 sufficient for 55 gr ammo? any help is appreciated.

Yes, you can shoot 55g through it.I shoot 55g through my 1/7 all the time and it's very accurate at the 50yds that I shoot at.

R6530's are the "poor man's" gov't carbine.  It's basically a gov't carbine (the much sought after R6520) minus the bayo lug, come standard with the A2 fixed stock, and says "LW Sporter" versus "gov't carbine."

R6530's go for somewhere in the $1,300-$1,500 last I checked (a year or so ago, but they might be harder to find right now?).  R6520's are $1,800-2,000+++??

So, if you got the R6530 for less than $1,300 you got a good deal IMHO, particularly if it's LNIB.

R6530's are preban.  You can install a collapsable stock.  Just don't stick one of those cheap $50 knock off's on it.  Put a Colt Enhanced M4 stock or VLTOR on it.

Have fun with your rifle!  I love my R6530 (though it's wearing a new upper and waiting to be reunited with it's A2 LW upper after the ban dies).
