I have noticed that both of my Colt AR's (pre & post ban) have "C" & "M" stamped on the upper receiver and I was wondering what the markings meant. Does it mean that they were made by Marietta Martin (Lockheed Martin)? How long have they been manufacturing weapons for Colt?

They don't.  The marks on Colt uppers stand for Colt (C) and whoever turned out the raw forging, which has been several outfits over the years. You'll find Colt uppers with H, M, K, and probably a couple of other marks, all preceeded by a C.
