Whoa...

What's on the SIR equipped rifle?  What settup is that?

Any captions or info on any of the pics?

(ed. to add: Sorry Chen I jumped in too soon, thanks for the updates.)

Thanks Chen.  As usual, excellent "scoop".

Chen,

Excellent pics!  Thanks for taking the time to keep us regular folks up to speed!

Man, is it just me or does the XM8 look really gay???  It looks like something Starfleet would issue...[:|]

I need a couple of the 1000RPM .50 cal machine guns![:D]

Its not just you, I also think the XM8 is gay as hell.  I don't think HK knows how to make "elegant" guns, just weird plastic space phaser ray guns.  Hey, how come the Beretta offerings are totally devoid of their usual flair and style?  Also, how come there are so many foreign manufacturers represented?  Is there nothing made by manufacturers in the good ole U.S. of A?

Chen,

some questions:

what's the MARS sight in the second pic ?
I admit my ignorance here.

The KAC suppressor seems to be mounted on a 10.5 barrel , right   ?

What's the meaning of the Beretta ARs presence there ?

Thanks for yr time,

I am almost surprised that the FS on all of them is very similar (read same) as the Vortex I use. [;)]

Great minds think alike?

I dont see a single Vortex out there and the only similar thing on a shoulder fired weapon is the XM8. [>:/]

That is the sight the Isrealis are using on the new Tavor.  It is a straight red dot reflex sight with IR aimer build in.

Beretta has a strong presence at the show, they brought their entire line for show and tell. I think the AR 79/90 was there to show their capabilities and range.

The Camel bak girls were pretty hot, but I did not want to be some freaky provert taking pictures of them from every possible angle.  [:)]

I will not be at the AUSA but plan a trip for the next year's AUSA.  I am sorry I did not come by and said hello, it would have been nice to hook up with you and Forest for dinner in DC.  Hope to see you next year.

Unfortunately you're right.

I hate to see badmouthing italian goods but here I cannot say anything good abt them .

The AR70/90 does his job indeed , but it is an old design , heavy and bulky .

FWIW:  The XM307 OCSW when converted to .50 BMG  becomes the XM312.  The mock-up barrel shown appears to be the XM307 given the thicker diameter, shorter length, and muzzle brake.  The prototype(s) of the XM312 shown to date have been fitted with a thinner, longer barrel without a muzzle brake.

The MARS reflex sight shown comes with a built in IR laser aimer so the Vital is kind of redundant.

Interesting to see that the KAC M4QD uses a piece of perforated sheet inconel wrapped and welded to the tube.  (that's a little cheap.) I haven't seen one like that.  Is that a new production modification or has it always been that way? (I always thought it was perforated inconel tubing).

That XM8 just looks like a G36 with a collapsible stock and redesigned outer plastic shell.  HK is trying to screw us over.

That sighting system on the HK grenade launcher looks like it might increase hit probability (too bad they can't design one for our M203 and maybe design a device to decrease barrel wobble (the 40mm grenades have greater range than the 36mm HK grenades.)

I guess I did not state the picture correctly, the barrel on the XM307 is the grenade barrel, the 50 cal barrel is laying on the ground next to the mock up display.

The sight shown with the HK AG-C is the Ring Sight LC-14-65 (NSN: 1240-12-359-8427).  It consists of a glass block etched with a ladder reticle allowing elevation out to 350m.  The reticle is illuminated by ambient light during daytime, and by a Tritium insert in darkened conditions.

The AG36/AG-C grenade launcher is most assuredly a standard 40x46mm system, instead of a smooth bore 37mm gas/flare launcher.  The Germans use it, as do the the Brits (as the L17A1 and L17A2 depending on the host weapon).  In the US, it is up for the EGLM competition as well as the new XM320 requirement.

I always thought the Germans used a totally different 36mm grenade with shorter range than the US 40MM grenade.

I realize now that that was probably the NVEC table and the M-16 was simply a display gun used for mounting the NVEC IR lasers (so I guess the redundancy was intended to show both units mounted with only one display gun.)

[The Night vision case filled with candy (not your normal use for a starlight case.) and the 2 NVEC products kind of tipped me off.]

Delta,

I played with the samething you did.  Both PMO and HK had display mock up at their table.  Earth tone on the PMO table and green on the HK display.

I hear 200 has been ordered for testing.
