I dont know how to answer your question. But I do want to offer this. It is my understanding that a thumbhole is still considered a pistol grip, in case you were trying to add an evil feature!

While a thumbhole stock is not considered a "military feature" under the 1989 "Import Ban", a thumbhole is considered a pistol grip under the 1994 AW ban. This being the case, interest in thumbhole stocks for domestic semi-auto rifles has disappeared.
