I have narrowed it down to a RAS II.
I see pics all over of the SIR, but I want to see some of the KAC. For ideas.

Edited to say: I want to see them on members guns, not Mfg pics off the internet. Please

Thank You to all.

Spooge Out!

I'm sorry guys, you can flame me if you want!
I think the RAS II looks much better than the SIR. It keeps the lines of the gun better. Now as far as function, I have neither, so I have no say. RAS II here I come next 2 weeks.

Thanks guys for the picks, keep them coming!

Spooge Watching!

Anyone have pics of a RAS II with an EOTech 551 or 552 + ARMs #40?  Like to see the space issues.

Hey Neil,

Did you do any tests on the RAS II, like you did on the SIR and FIRSH????

Tell me your thoughts compared to all. PLEASE!

Lumpster, Lover the Vltor... The Magpul M93 is still my favorite, but the Vltor does feel better on the cheek.

I did a thread a long time ago when the RAS 2 first came out talking about what I thought between the SIR and the RAS II. I feel the same now as I did then.

Each system has advantages over the other. Personally, I like the SIR best, and there's a few reasons for that, but none are so overwhelming that I think it is THAT much better than the RAS II.

Basically, I like that the SIR's lower is made of synthetics which reduces felt heat. It also illiminates the need for pannels. Pannels reduce airflow and cooling and add to the number of parts you need to concern yourself with and the overall bulk of the handgaurds. This is especially true now that the #46 and #50 slim line SIRs are out. SIRs are generally much more available than Kights gear. If I need a SIR I can call any one of a dozen places to put my order in. Knights stuff is much harder to come by and there are far fewer dealers. Especially stocking dealers. Thank god Wes and Paul at MSTN usually have Knights stuff on the shelves to sell. Thats where I got my RAS II.

So what advantages do the RAS II have over the SIR? Well, the lower half of the SIR can flex some when I am cranking in on my forward grip. Its not as though it is going to break, but there is some flex. The RAS II is a lot more solid there in my experience. Also, people who dont like the crazy SIR look (I actually like it) will appreciate the RAS II better. It keeps more in touch with the traditional look of the rifle. RAS II is also lighter than the SIR, but I dont remember by how much. It wasnt a real lot but it was lighter and it was enough so that it was worthy of mention. RAS II also leaves therear section of your flat top exposed so you can mount ACOGs to the height they were meant to be mounted. This will allow you to acheive and maintain a propper cheek weld. This is more important to some people than others, but the SIR does raise the rear mounting platform and if you mount a ACOG there, you have to raise your head slightly.

Thats enough for now...

One of the things Ive discovered I like about the Vltor is that its excellent for allowing me to do one handed wounded arm shooting drills.  Lock your cheek down on that sloped rest and it locks the gun nicely into your shoulder.

One thing to consider on the RASII is what you will mount as far as optics and BUIS. The EOTech AA model will not fit between the RASII hump and the ARMS#40 BUIS, it does fits way forward of the hump. The Aimpoint works great on the hump.
Food for thought.

I was just curious were I would go about getting one of those doctor sight mounts for my ACOG? Between the ACOG and the Doctor just on top of it you wouldn't need much else I would guess.

I think the RAS II, Big ACOG would work good for a longer barrel rifle. For me, the SIR & Comp ACOG are great for my M4.

But, who knows what they'll come out with next!

www.specwargear.comhas/had the mount.  I use this set up and love it.  It's not very popular for some reason but I think it is the best set up out there for a general purpose rifle.

They had a sale back in the spring for the RAS IIs... only $295 each!

I ordered one when they were $327 and didn't get it for a month.

Impact guns sucks ass.  They sent me the 600 meter BUIS and sling swivel about 5-6 months after the order (I was so surprised to see it as I had nearly forgotten I even ordered them) and at that point they had forgotten the sale they were running on the 600m BUIS when I ordered and didn't give me the sale price. I was so sick of calling them that I never called back to get it straightened out.

AND I WON'T CALL THEM EVER AGAIN EITHER

If I'ld have bought from MSTN I would have had my order in 2 weeks.

Or quite possibly 2 days.  [:D]

I have gotten to the point where I'm willing to pay slightly more for reliable (known) service.  And Wes/MSTN deliver it and then some.

I love the hump on it.  No need to spend extra cash on a spacer.  Just the Ras and the GGG mount along with the aimpoint.  The mount also holds a spare battery.  What more could you ask for?
