The *right* way to do it is to use the "blind-pin & weld" method, as this puts the least stress on the barrel out of all the BATF-approved methods.
Basically, a hole is drilled in the FS that goes through the center of the threads, but does not go all the way through the FS. A steel pin is driven into the hole, and the pin is welded over (this keeps the heat on the FS, and away from the barrel itself). The weld is then turned down smooth, and the FS is refinished. Kurt at KKF can do this, but he's busy, and turn-around right now is 6-8 weeks. -Troy |

Me223 (Ohio Rapidfire) has a much faster turnaround time. I had him park a barrel and had it back in a week. He charges $45 for a blind pin and weld and a repark of the FH including return shipping.

Just a couple of thoughts on this...
I have had quite a few people aske that I NOT finish/smooth the weld... rather leave the small weld indication (which is at 6 o'clock). The theory, as I understand, is that it aids in proving that the FS was pinned and welded? Naturally, the area is cleaned up and refinished with GunKote or park or whatever. Also, when I weld the pin, I blow air down the barrel... probably not needed, but it makes me think that I am taking every step to reduce the heat actually applied to the barrel. |
