I'm really thinking of an SIR for my AR10 if they come out with a rifle length for the AR10.
The chrome lined barrel is accurate enough with a non-freefloated barrel. The SIR would likely give me the benefits of the a more ordinary freefloat tube plus the added versatility the SIR offers. Ofcourse, I wouldn't mind one for my 20 inch Bushmaster as well. |

CAME YESTERDAY. PUT IT ON AN SPR MK 12 I BUILT UP ESPECIALLY FOR IT WITH A STOCK COLT BARREL NUT. INSTALLATION TIME 5 MINUTES.

*********** Regarding that OPS brake + suppressor alignment ring: did you have to shorten the bbl. to get the ring to sit flush w/ the front sight? I've noticed on M4 varieties that the ring sits in front of the bbl. cut-out (to make room for the M203 mounting bracket). For the M4/CAR, does OPS also make a can that would/could mount further back to sit flush w/ the end of the front sight, sans M203? As well, does Seaberger (sp?) have any plans to move operations to another state so he can sell to civi's? |

THE BARREL IS TRUE SPR CONTOUR. THE BARREL COLLAR SITS ON A PRECISELY LOCATED "STEP" IN THE BARREL. IT IS CLOSE TO THE FRONT SIGHT, BUT DOES NOT TOUCH IT.
IN ADDITION TO THE SPR SUPPRESSOR, OPS INC MAKES SEVERAL OTHERS, INCLUDING A SHORTER VERSION FOR CQB WORK. I IMAGINE OPS INC IS QUITE BUSY FILLING MILITARY ORDERS AT THE PRESENT. I KNOW OF NO HARD & FAST PLANS TO RELOCATE. BUT, I CERTAINLY WISH THEY WOULD! WES GRANT [URL]MSTN.BIZ[/URL] |

THE AFT SECTION, THE DARKER PORTION, IS A STANDARD CARBINE LENGTH SIR HANDGUARD OF SYNTHETIC. THE FORWARD PORTION IS ALL ALUMINUM, LIKE THE REST OF THE SIR.
THE ALUMINUM PORTION HAS MILSTD 1913 RAIL RUNNING ITS ENTIRE LENGTH, NEGATING THE NEED TO ADD A RAIL SECTION. THERE ARE SHORT #1 AND #2 RAIL SECTIONS FOR THE LEFT AND RIGHT QUADRANTS. Can I take a NO.1 or 2 rail and put it further back towards the rear of the handguard for my bi-pod like the #50 does. What about the #3 rail? How does the foward lower alum section disenguage? Can I put a NO. 1, 2 or three rail along the sides from front to back? This thing looks awsome so would like some more info. Good shootin, Jack |

That's one of the nice features of the SIR's, you can put the rails where and when you need them, instead of having to keep track of pannels. Makes it lighter, more comfortable, and less bulky than having to hold a rail or pannel. I assume this full length is a slim line, WES?

From my experience, anytime the military can have a many common parts for weapons like the lower handguards and rails interchangable, it's the smart thing to do. Especialy for the guys in the field and logistical reasons. I can see that they may even have laser range finder devices, etc. that can be exchanged into the forend. That's the modular aspect I like about the SIR's. Maybe ARMS will give us some info, maybe not.

The reasons you stated above are why I use the SIR exclusively. The fact that I don't have to have unneeded weight from a rail that i don't need or want, that I can configure the forend rails to suit my needs, and that I can take it apart for cleaning in the field with a coin, IMO make it the best system. People complain about the ACOG height w/ the SIR, but in no way is it unusable. On my #50 gun I'm running an TA31 with the Trijicon mount, and will soon be picking up an ARMS #19s for it. I have to say that the SIR is the system from which others will be judged, as opposed to the old Knights standard. Sorry to make this so long folks, but, think about how revolutionary the Selective Rails are. This new #59 will be on my upcoming SPR, and on my "Recon Rifle" build. *sigh* Now if i just had the $$$ to build them, hehe. -Cap'n |

It seems using #19S or TA51 over the SIR rail only raises like a quarter of inch.
I was originally going to use TA31 / 19S directly on top of a rail, but after seeing this I must go with Rifle SIR. I'm getting tired of waiting for user-installable FF rifle length forends. RAS II was good but then we don't have long version of it. The new Rifle SIR looks much better than the one we saw at the SHOT show earlier this year. |

THE #59 IS SLIM LINE, BI-LEVEL. THE BALANCE I FEEL WITH THE SPR BARREL [MEDIUM CONTOUR] IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR OFFHAND USE, WITH ENOUGH MUZZLE HEAVINESS FOR GOOD "POINTABILITY". YES, THAT IS NOW A WORD. I NEED A BIGGER SCALE TO CONFIRM THE ACTUAL WEIGHT. THE BARREL CONTOUR IS OF COURSE THE LARGEST VARIABLE IN THIS EQUATION. THE SHORT RAIL SECTIONS THAT COME WITH THE #59 CAN BE POSITIONED WHEREVER YOU WISH. THE LONGER RAIL SECIONS DO NOT COME WITH IT, AND I DO NOT SEE A PRESSING NEED FOR THEM, BUT THEY CAN OF COURSE BE ADDED. THE FORWARD, ALUMINUM PORTION OF THE LOWER HANDGUARD HAS A FULL LENGTH RAIL ON THE BOTTOM, GIVING 6"+ OF CHOICES FOR A BIPOD POSITION. THE REAR PORTION OF THE HANDGUARD IS LEFT SYNTHETIC, TO PROTECT THE HAND FROM HEAT TRANSFER FROM THE RECEIVER/BARREL JUNCTION. OUT FORWARD, THE ALUMINUM PORTION OF THE LOWER HANDGUARD IS RELATIVELY IMMUNE FROM SO MUCH HEAT TRANFER, AND IT IS UNLIKELY THE SUPPORT HAND WOULD BE PLACED SO FAR FORWARD AS TO CONTACT IT. THE ENTIRE LOWER PORTION OF THE FOREND, BOTH THE SYNTHETIC AND ALUMINUM SECTIONS, CAN BE REMOVED IN A FEW SECONDS WITH A SUITABLE COIN OR SCREWDRIVER VIA WHAT IN AVIATION WE CALL "ZEUS FASTENERS" ON EITHER SIDE. I realized after I typed that about the rails "selective" In my opinion, I think the longer rails should be on there(or included) to suit the user more, keeping in mind that not everyone is going to set things up like everyone else. Ok, one more- is there a rail on the polymer lower section? I'm asking to decide between the FF RAS and the #59

Mark According to WES, the selective rails can be installed anywhere, just like the carbine SIR rails.
Your right about not everyone is going to set up the same way, and that's what I like about the SIR, I don't have to have a rail where my hand goes. Whats the sense of having a pannel over a rail you can't get rid of and where the hands go? Especially if you remove the pannel and put something on that rear portion of rail, then you can't put your hand there anymore, because the device took that spot. It looks like ARMS give the option of getting extra rails if wanted, or the price would be higher if they were all included, another option I like. I'd like to see some more detail from WES, or someone. Good Shootin, Jack |

WES! "zeus fasteners".........are those the button type fasteners that ARMS uses to fasten the polymer lower to the upper on the carbine length #45(and I am assuming all the other model #'s)? The screw that you push in and turn halfway to lock?

I USE THEM BOTH INTERCHANGEABLY. I PREFER THE CRANE STOCK WHEN SHOOTING MY SR-25K IN .308, BECAUSE I THINK BECAUSE OF ITS LARGER SIZE IT JUST LOOKS BETTER ON SUCH A LARGER WEAPON.

What's the flip up doohickey thing that is on the front of the SIR top rail just behind the front sight and ahead of the laser designator?
I REALLY want one of these things for my AR10 damn it. Maybe one for the Bushmaster 20inch as well but time will tell, maybe if I go the SPR route if the AW ban sunsets. I think I'd actually rather have an SIR than the PRI tube. |
