Just left ARMS, their model #58, the midlength SIR is awesome. It is immediately available, and ready to ship. It uses their car length lower handguard, w/ the addition of approximately 2-3" of alloy i/f/o that.

Amazing piece, ARMS has outdone themselves, again. Anyone w/ a midlength, awaiting the 58, run and order one you will definitely not be dissapointed.

WOO HOOOO! Looks like I'll be getting a SIR for my .50 Beowulf after all...

BTW: Is it a slim-line, is it a bi-level???

sorry, yes 2x's. It slimline and bi level . W/ adapter available to make it 1 level if needed.

I SHOULD HAVE THEM IN HAND BY MONDAY OR TUESDAY.

WHY DO YOU THINK ARMS MADE THE #58, FOR THE OWNERS OF ARMALITE AND ROCK RIVER INTERMEDIATE UPPERS? TRUE, THEY BENEFIT, BUT THAT'S NOT THE REASON. LOOK FOR MORE INTEREST BY SOCOM AND CRANE IN THE INTERMEDIATE LENGTH GAS SYSTEM WITH 16" - 18.5" BARRELS IN THE FUTURE.

Word I got was the military asked for the full length for the sbr project. ARMS gave them a choice between a large order of car lengh SIRS or the full length. They chose the larger order then, the middie, then full to follow. Last word was the full length are available as working protos. Barring unforseens the fulls should be close.

At thi point that is ARMS', understanding. Who knows what the military will change their minds to. The original SPR shoud have been the dedicated SPR SIR, but the logistics caused a compromise that became the SPR sleave and forearm system.

Yeah. I think I understand why now everyone says the SIR system is superior to the PRI tube. I mean, I don't understand the point of needing an ARMS 38 SWAN sleeve to your $350 carbon fiber tube etc. The SIR already has that "sleeve" of rigidity built in, etc.

Whatever. I'm too damn tight to pay for match ammo. It would be a cool rifle to build though.

Guys, what kind of front sight would you choose for the SIR mid-lenght combo?

What about the gas block?

I assumed everyone wants to put the SIR mid-length on a 18" or 16" upper.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to have a PRI front flip up.

What about the low profile gas block on a 16" barrel since the SIR mid-length will cover the gas port portion anyway?

IF YOU'RE USING A 16" BARREL WITH A STANDARD CARBINE GAS SYSTEM, THIS WOULD OF COURSE WORK.

BUT UNTIL ARMS COMES UP WITH A FLIP UP FRONT SIGHT TO BE MOUNTED DIRECTLY ON THE ARMS #58, THERE IS NO SUITABLE FRONT SIGHT FOR THIS COMBO.

ARMS will have one. Just my opinion.

It doesn't really make sense if they have the SIR mid-length but not planning for a SIR front flip up.

On the flip up front sight issue, ARMS "official" response was that there is none in the works, currently, or in the near future. I didn't get the feeling this was a disinformation ploy. For what its worth, I'm not holding my breath, just waiting patiently.. They don't tend to "rush" releases either. There SIR was in development for over 6 years. SUL2.

It must've been 1982 or 1983. I'd finally collected ALL the G.I Joe figures, including the mail-order-only Cobra Commander who was the first to come with "swivel arm battle grip".
Not one day after I completed my collection my 12 year old heart sank as Hasbro excitedly introduced a completely new line-up of new figures.

That's the only thing that I can think of to equate you to, Wes. Just when I think I'm happy you offer something new.

THE INTERMEDIATE LENGTH GAS SYSTEM AND ITS INCREASED RELIABILITY IN APPROX 16" BARRELS HOLDS MUCH POTENTIAL. I PREDICT IT IS THE FUTURE OF CARBINE LENGTH AR'S.

IN 5.56MM AS WELL AS OTHER CALIBERS.

Does the installation of the SIR system require the removal of the FSB? I have RRA M4ergery and the fake flash hider is actually part of the barrel, so I can't remove the FSB. Thanks.

Nope.

But the #58 will require the removal of the Delta Ring assembly, since it's in "M" configuration. Any in the "C" configuration only require removal of the handguards, even the Delta Ring stays in place.

Other than changing the weight what is the real reason for the "C" and "M" versions of the SIR systems? Seems everyone would want to stick with the civie version since no alterations take place. And the Military, it would seem, might prefer this as well for ease of maintanance. The #58 looks sweet!
