I have a RRA bolt carrier where the bottom cut out is much larger than the standard one in my M-4 and M16 from the Army.  I like it a lot better because it makes cleaning so much easier.
Who else does this and what are the reasons besides making cleaning easier?  Any disadvantages?
Thanks

If you are referring to the lower half of the carrier, where it is milled out (in comparision to the top half) this is done on semi carriers to prevent the carrier from contacting the sear. On an AR15 type weapon there is no trip sear. On an M16 or similar variant there is.
