I read this and found it interesting...

Colt chamber dimensions are proprietary. No other manufacturer (except for FN) has the specifications for the chamber. Reverse engineering can give manufacturers an idea, but manufacturering tolerances still mask the true specification of the chamber. Colt chambers have elliptical dimensions within the design in order to aid in chambering and extracting. Others do not.
