Do you have a build that's a mash-up of inspiration from multiple clones?
Did you mash up a bunch of parts from your bin that might have been used in the wild?
This is the thread for you.

If it's in the wild or made by a known military supplier (KAC, DD, G, etc.) game on.
Optics, go crazy.  The reality is strike eagles are being used downrange, there's no clone police here.

For those with absolute purist clones, post them, but please don't shit on the guys just having fun slapping things together.

Post pictures, talk about parts, have fun.

well, im kinda "clone-homeless" so I figure I may fit in here. Ban-Era bushmaster. 16" hbar throws a wrench in the "m4" ideology but im working with what I've got as its my first AR. This was shoved in the back of the used rack, instead of ammo I came home with a new carbine!. Indications point to nearly zero rounds through the pipe. Was looking to do a gwot inspired build up, DD omega was waiting for NICs check to clear, only to get it home and find out its got the Ares/BM piston kit and the Omega is a no go. Depending on things I may just forego the quad rail....they just look so good and this thread has me wanting to get one sorted. YHM tri rail out front with HS thorntail, streamlight, weaver CH mount and PA MD25/ACSS. I'm sure optics will change soon enough, but for now I need to run it and make sure its operationally sound.

You guys are gonna spend all my monies with me.

Which tube is this?

I'm curious too

Hogue makes a tube that's a little more modular.

I do not disagree, though from the looks of it, it needs a good bit removed for proper clearance for barrel whip and it might mangle the rail before I achieve zero interference. I'll have to put my eyeballs on it again tomorrow and see if I can get a better look at just how much it's hitting. Was tempting to just return it and get the MI17, though the idea of a FF was appealing.

I'm not tracking. If there is room for clamshell there should be room for a DD Omega, minus maybe piston rod clearance. Barrel whip shouldn't factor in, especially with a HBAR.

Edit: looking it up you should have no problem at all

Thinking about going 14.5” with my CQ/T build, either BA Hanson or Criterion CORE. Still undecided on the handguard.

Might try one of Midwest’s Night Fighter rails and swap a VITAL-2 and M620V over for bonus points. A URX4 would much better suit this thread but it’s more than I’d like to spend.

Look how casual he dropped that confirmation. Our very own Rebel, all growed up and industrialized. Proud moment for the GWOT family.

Follow up on this, the DD Omega has hella height ID. Even a 54387" pencil barrel wouldn't touch if you stood on the end of it.

Can confirm this rail 100% won't fit over this stupid piston setup. Matter of fact I would have to cut the vertical supports and the top 1913 rail zero on out completely aft of the FSB for approx 2" roughly to clear the whole piston housing and clamp. Not exaggerating either. My phone takes potato pictures and wouldn't focus properly or I would post up a picture. I was hoping there would be enough room to clearance it but this will legit end up full bubba before it clears.

Edited to add: the clamshells are part of the kit and designed specifically for this. I'm still sorting through exact details of this kit with searches.

Toss up some pictures when you can and measure just behind the FSB, both the width of the piston housing and the height above where the FSB meets barrel

here's a link to my imgur. I took updated pics.

The piston clamp is approximately .67-.69 wide (widest point inline where gas tube would be),     .67 tall (from top of barrel)   and just over 3" long before the oprod begins and maintains gas tube size.

The widest point on the clamp is wider than portions of the rail it interferes with. The clam shell sits hard against the piston housing as well.

I apologize for clouding the thread with this nonsense gents.

@Hodgexj1996 dude no reason to apologize. You're in the right spot. It may be a tight squeeze, and minor fitting may be required (although I'm still pretty sure minor is an exaggeration). There's always some fuckery afoot here, and stick around long enough to watch everyone spend your money

@Infidel4life11 do you still have that DD Omega middy?

Can anyone confirm the inside specs of the Omega line?

I was hopeful I could mix a nice stiff drink and just let er have it with the dremel, but this thing legit will end up with whole pieces of rail missing to fit. I didn't even know it was a freaking piston setup either so that just made this all the worse since the parts were already ordered and waiting to pick the rifle up. I did lock the calipers to the size of the piston housing clamp and it is for sure wider than the exterior omega in a few places. I was on the DD site and they give dimensions but not of the spots in question. Bleh. Might just consider another rail before I do something dumb and can't return this.

I'm totally ok with y'all helping spending my money, I can't leave shit alone......ever. Build it shoot it, tweak it repeat. Winter is here so heavy larp/dry fire season is upon me!

I get it...but they are staying like that. Way more comfortable and less snag prone.

There is a lot not clone correct, which is why I didn't post it in the mk12 thread

Phase 1 is g2g. Still sitting on the idea of a Quad rail and different optic setup, but I'm gonna see how it runs like this before I go fucking around much more. At this point it's mostly aesthetic change I'd be after. So far I'm into this like $50-75 so I can't bitch one bit. I'm not overly concerned with building a clone as I am a functional/reliable carbine.

I'm new, I don't know what to do. I read the first post about mash-ups, clones, etc. Also noted the comment about how Strike Eagles weren't supposed to get shit on so that us retards wouldn't feel like we were getting picked on. This is no clone of anything. Its essentially an old SP1 on a new receiver with some other shit glued on and (yup) a Strike Eagle because I got it for Christmas from my 10 year old nephew. Haven't fired it yet but my kids did put about 2 lbs of paint on it.

Slowly getting there. Scooped an MI drop in off the EE and slapped in on today. Kinda gwot, kinda not, 100% inspired. Had to remove the barrel clamp that was just aft of the FSB. From what I can find its an extra piece bushmaster added to the ares kit and not totally necessary, nor is it very clear on what its function is. At some point ill be going back to DI anyway so ill likely modify the clamp so it fits.
