Factory mid length gas system.
I like the rail :) |
The Colt Combat UnitTM carbine (SKU – LE6960-CCU) has an MSRP of $1,299 and is available exclusively from TALO Distributors.

Although my personal all time favorite Colt AR's are the 6921 and 6933, I wouldn't mind adding one of these to the collection. Glad Colt has finally caught up with the times and pricing isn't bad either.
Good, now no one has anything to bitch about regarding Colt not giving consumers what they ask for.
I heard about this a long time ago (long enough that I thought it wasn't going to happen), I'm glad to see Colt make the jump into a quality rail and midlength barrel.

They can do better with finish detail and assembly but just don't seem to care. Still have that government contractor "good enough for government work" lowest bidder mentality. FN is doing both gov't production and civilian market and has much better fit and finish. Colt could if they wanted. |

Better late than never, I guess. Yep. They are only 10 years behind everyone else, in more ways that one. I don't necessarily blame them. I think that they know that the Colt name appeals to traditionalists. AR fads come and go fast. Remember when monolithic uppers were the hotness? Colt came out with the 6940 in relatively short order.... and it didn't sell worth a darn. A lightweight midlength barrel will appeal to the same crowd that likes the 6720.... and those have sold well. |
I was really hoping for a tapered barrel. Not a fan of the straight pencil profile.
Too expensive for what you get. For that kind of price, it'd have to come with a Geissele trigger or something comparable.

I'd be interested if they can bring it with a street price around $1K.
Or offer an OEM1for ~$850 :) |

Built my last rifle with a Larue barrel, Noveske BCG, Geissele SD-E, and SMOS rail for $900. This Colt at $1300 is a bit expensive, and I can build better for cheaper.

Meh! I can build that for $850 Nope. He may have been a tad low, but I think his general point is valid. I have this sitting in my "to do" pile right now... Larue Stealth barrel - $225 BCM BCG - $159 Aero matched upper/lower receiver - $170 PSA Moe lower build kit - $124 Geissele G2S - $130 That puts me right around $800 with just a CH, gas block, gas tube, and handguard needed to complete the build. I sold the stock trigger from the PSA kit for $25, so even with a $200 handguard, I'm sitting around $1K on the nose. I would have to see this new Colt (in today's market) right at $1k to give it a sniff. Too much value elsewhere in the market right now. |
BCG was on sale for $130. Trigger was on sale for $175. SMOS rail was $150. Larue barrel was $200. That's $655 and leaves $245 for the small parts and receivers (Aero Precision matched set was on sale for $120 shipped). Always buy on sale. I'm not exaggerating when I say I built that rifle under $900. And it is a better rifle than that Colt. I could build the equivalent of that Colt for under $900 easily. At $1300, that rifle is insanely overpriced. And being a Talo exclusive, it won't go for much under MSRP.

So if I catch every sale over the course of six months I can spend the time to build a rifle with parts from six different manufacturers that should be about as good as the factory Colt for a couple hundred bucks less than what Colt's asking for retail. Great. So what?
Glad Colt put this together, looks like a great product at a very reasonable price point. |
Lol.....yeah, that Colt is definitely better and worth more than my Larue barreled premium build with a Geissele trigger and Noveske BCG. Sorry, but no. You're paying for the stamp on the side of that Colt. If that's worth it to you, go for it. But for $1300, you can have SO much more. That Colt is aggressively overpriced. They essentially took a $900 6720, threw on a $150 Centurion rail (they are that cheap at Lanbos, and Colt is likely buying in bulk for way cheaper than that), drilled the gas port at the middie position, and slapped some magpul stuff on there, and jacked the price up $400. Nope for me. This thing should be under $1k easily.

Is it an Armalite mid length?
I'd like to see the barrel profile. |

Seems like that Centurion for $150 is the best deal going right now since SMOS jacked their prices up. I like my Centurion a lot.
As for factory prices on this level of gun, I'd take the BCM or DD offerings in this price range over the Colt. Their QC and general fit/finish are better from the ones I've handled. But that's just me. We're all adults and can spend our money however we want. If the Colt does it for you, have at it. It'll throw lead down range, and that's what it's all about. Quoted:

MSRP is irrelevant across the board. At least to those that know what they're doing. Well, if it were actually out, I'm guessing some online shop or GB vendor would have it for under MSRP. I was more stating that in response to the member who posted MSRP prices of other rifles in comparison though. DD rifles in particular can regularly be found on sale for $300 and $400 below MSRP. You can also buy a BCM lower from a handful of different vendors, and then whichever BCM upper most fits your fancy, and then also have a complete BCM mid for several hundred below that MSRP as well. |
