Visited my safe recently and found a 20" Colt Match H-Bar ser # 0727XX.  What's different is that the stock has a triangular cut in it.  And the bbl seem heavier than my other 20" rifles, didn't take the handguards off.  I was told it was all factory Colt.  Can anyone shed some light on this rifle.

An HBAR barrel will be heavier than a standard barrel. It's fatter under then handguards than the end from the front sight forwards. A standard barrel will be skinnier under the handguards than the forward end.

It does sound like there's an aftermarket buttstock on it but pics are needed.

Also the letter prefix to the serial number is important to identifying the model and vintage of a Colt. Just the digits by themselves don't tell us much.

Def need some pics..
I wonder if it's stamped C MP near the muzzle or C near the bbl extension.

This is my Colt Sporter Match HBAR MH6601. The serial number is a bit earlier than yours. Does yours look like this one?

Guys, I have been in contact with the OP and I have seen a picture of the MH6601 and the stock. The stock looks like this.

Note: This is just a photoshopped resemblance of his stock.

He has a Colt A2 stock that he is going to replace this one with. I am not sure why someone would have installed this stock on the MH6601.

Tend to be very accurate rifles, in particular if you float the barrel and give them a better trigger. The delta rifles had that cheek piece that make it a little easier to use a scope if you want to mount one on the carry handle, although those cheek piece parts seem to be increasingly difficult to find. A little heavy to pack around, but that is why a guy might want a carbine for other purposes.

Once had this rifle. It was certainly very accurate but long and heavy for my taste. The compact M4 suits me better but at 100 yds the groups are not as tight but still in the right zone.

Quite possibly. His is a hollow version like the DPMS stock. I am glad you found the link for that one. I searched and search, but could not find one. I guess my Bing foo was off a bit.
