I know it is the cardinal sin of AR15 ownership not to modify but I see all these guys who buy the gun and then by the time they are done they have dumped thousands of dollars into it there is barely 40 percent of the original rifle left (If that). Why not just build your own from the ground up? I just bought my MP15 Sport 2 and the only thing I might add to it is a red dot sight. Did any of you buy a rifle similar to mine and then NEVER modified it at all while using it for years and years? I might admit the plastic "butt" of the rifle isnt very comfy when I hold it in my shoulder.

I have a Colt 6920 that's 2 years old. I Just swapped the MBUS rear sight it came with for a carry handle.

My A2 Bushy is 20 years old and is the same except for a Hogue grip. My M-4 ish rifles get a Hogue grip and a Magpul MOE stock. One has a red-dot and one has 1-4x scope. Oh, and I only own GI spec aluminum magazines, no plastic ones.

Colt green label A2 AR15 I purchased used around 1990. Only mods have been swapping screws for Compass Lake front takedown pin for easier cleaning and Silencerco three prong flash hider for can.

I bought an SP 1 Colt Sporter in 1980 with my first PD Paycheck and it is still stock other than pulling out the 5 round limiters to the 20 round mags.

Sure, two Colt sporters from the good old days that both have the original extractor springs with no o-rings. No dumb one-piece gas rings and the original buffer's and springs.

Both run fine.

I've only ever bought 2, and those were both .308s. One was because nothing like it can be assembled from parts available on the market, and the other was because it was really cheap. The second one hasn't been modified, but also hasn't been shot.

I see no point whatsoever in buying an off the rack AR15, when I know what I like, and nobody builds that, and those that come close are too expensive.

Depends on what I'm looking for at the time. A few are just cheap plinkers that will go to my kids when they grow up. Then there is a semi-premium SBR, and a few nicer SHTF type rifles. Sans optics, I am between $600 and $1500 for my rifles. I would say, on average, that 800-1k will get me exactly what I'm looking for in a nice rifle

I have a Colt 6550 - A2 profile barrel that I got for service match shooting in the early 90's. Very original and even keep my USMC old-style sling I used in the early 80's on it. I would not F with it ever.

Now I did get on e of those add-on cheek pieces for it (Delta H-Bar kinda' thing) because I used to scope it for antelope hunting when I lived in ID. Not on there now.

colt A2 Hbar. I took put a flat top, round tube free float forend and a picatinny gas block on way back. I used it with a scope for a couple years and wanted my A2 back so I put it all back stock. Only non OEM part is my sling swivel rivet.

I dragged to our HTF shoot at Fort Drum and shot in our match with it. I won a nice set of flip sights from Troy.

Still stock. It'll stay stock..

I have a colt 6520 that is completely stock. Don't shoot it all that much though. I usually use it when introducing new and young shooters to the AR 15 platform.

my RRA,DPMS,Colt are all stock
but i do plan on switching out hte pistol grips on the DPMS and Colt
just because i really like the ergo grip on my RRA

other than that they will stay stock

money spent on changing things on them,is better spent on building my own custom rifle

I bought a postban bushmaster in 2002 ish and shot it until 2005 until a bought a preban and switched to that. Never changed anything on the bushy except mounted a 4x carry handle scope that i took off about a month later

Bushmaster M4A2 14.5 with pinned Phantom FH bought in 1998 during ban.
Only change is it has Foliage green magpul moe furniture on it now.

Out of my current 5 AR just this one my all Colt parts A2 rifle clone, my other four carbines I changed a lot of components for different personal preference.

This pic was taken just after I built it in mid 2005, I only changed to the A2 type correct grip and military 2 point adjustable cloth black sling to make it closer to the A2 issue rifle.

I started out with a USGI M16A2 Colt never issued 1980s upper half without BCG and no charging handle in early '05.

Then I found a like new Colt Match Target HBAR stripped lower half at my local gun shop, I ordered online all Colt parts LPK, M16 auto BCG, charging handle, M16A2 buttstock group kit and in about less than an hour got it assembled.

I still shoot it regularly just the way it is with iron sights, I won't put any optics on it, it reminded me of the AR rifles that I used to have, all Colt, Sporter SP1, AR-15A2 Sporter II, AR-15A2 HBAR Sporter, and Sporter Target Model.

I've got an early 90s Oly Arms SUM and an early 90s RRA Tactical Entry that are unchanged. No reason to change them. They are what they are and I can build anything else I want.

Impossible not to modify... every AR seemingly comes with those cheap, garbage M4 stocks. Those always get swapped out for something less awful looking.

Bought my HBAR in 1988, fired Service rifle with it over the next 4 years until I retired from the Army in 92. It is still as it was and ever will be as it sits at the right hand of God.

Nerve bought a "rifle" just for the bolded reason. I want what I want and the easiest and cheapest way to do that is to put together the parts you want in the first place.

Kind of. My first AR was an A2 style Colt. I immediately turned it into a boat anchor with useless shit, realized my mistake, then turned it back in to its useful, practical configuration.

That rifle was stolen but I replaced it with a rack grade style A4 build. Still my most used AR.
