What is the purpose/advantage of a 11.5" barrel with a pinned 5.5" flash hider over a 14.5" pinned barrel assy?

Just curious.

Nothing.

IMO the main reason they sell them is for folks that want a legal length XM177 clone.

I cannot think of a single advantage of a pinned 10.5" over a pinned 14.5".

Retro look without a stamp.
That's it.

It has to be an 11.5" + the 5.5" FH. You have to account for the threaded part(overlap). So the 10.5" will be too short.

While it may be specious - I've heard the "argument" made that you could/would build and use an 11.5" with a pinned muzzle device so that you could ensure that it would run reliably and that you could train with it and "trust it," and if "SHTF" and rule of law came crashing down, you'd grind the pin(s) out, slap on a flash suppressor, and have a functional 11.5" carbine.
