I have a bcm 14.5 lightweight middy with the 13'' kmr and pinned bcm comp mod 1, after one range session it became my favorite ar15.

I like my middys. The recoil impulse feels less, and from what I understand, it is less harsh on the overall system than the carbine set up.

Either would be a good choice.
BCM 16" MID cut down to 14.5" by ADCO with PERM A2X FH 
PSA FN Barreled 14.5" with PERM A2X FH

I'm probably in the minority here but on a 14.5 I prefer a carbine gas system for the perceived reliability, although most people don't seem to have trouble out of their mid-lengths.

The 14.5" lightweight carbine with the FSB is now obsolete. That is to say, not in stock and won't be restocked. I wanted to buy a couple of them, but alas they are gone. I'm trying to talk them into doing another run.
I do own the 14.5" lightweight middy, and its one of my favorite rifles.

I used to be the same way, but after a few thousand rounds with the same ammo and the same conditions... My BCM 14.5" mids have proven to be just as reliable as my 14.5" & 16" Colt carbines. Which is 100%.

Midlength + H buffer. Cycles everything I've put through it. Tula, Wolf, PMC, Fed. No short strokes. Only way I'd go carbine again is for a clone.

As stated OP, flip a coin. I have both middys and carbines. I shoot them all, enjoy them all and have come to the conclusion that the vast majority of the whole "softer recoil impulse" of a mid length to be far over rated. My middys and carbines are all equally reliable. |

I had Ballistic Advantage install a 625 FSB on one of their 14.5 LW mid barrels a few months ago, havent built the upper yet, but it looks like a very nice barrel. |

I have a CMMG 14.5" 1-7" midlength with permanently attached Phantom. It has functioned 100% since round 1. It has had close to 5k through it.
