CD, thanks again for everything you contribute to this massive thread.  Are the 14.5” barrels that come through your workflow government profile or SOCOM profile?  Just curious about what’s under the hood on that URGI.  Thanks!

Hey, I didn't upgrade from my decade-old Canon point n' shoot to a DSLR not to use it, lol.

Actually, if it weren't for wanting to take better clone pics, I doubt I would've ever had a desire to learn anything semi-advanced about photography. Prior to that, I couldn't have told you aperture from ISO from shutter speed or what any of those settings did. Now I generally shoot fully manual, have a decent grasp of what lens to use when and can usually take some fairly decent photos. Thanks, cloning!

You can get a very decent Canon DSLR for around $400-$600 including a kit lens; add a Canon 50mm lens for about $100 and you've got a pretty flexible basic kit. Not cheap necessarily, but not a massive investment. You can always add lenses as you go for more specialized purposes. One nice thing is that the lenses are, for the most part, one-time purchases and carry over if/when you want to upgrade to a new DSLR body.

While it's certainly possible to spend tons of money if you get into the really high-end professional gear, it's not necessary to get started. If anything, it's just going to offer capabilities/features you probably won't need or even be able to use starting out. You'll know when your knowledge/skill-level has outgrown the capability of your current equipment and how far you want to go with it at that point. I wouldn't worry about the more expensive gear until then.

Yeah, the all black almost-clones look great.

Last piece of the cqbr came in today and installed. USGI surplus teardrop forward assist.
Official done buying parts for this build.... until I feel bad for it being too far from "clone-correct" and change everything back.

Just picked up an RC2 for a CQBR I bought a few years ago and think I may have a problem.  Pretty sure I'm missing the beveled spacer, which is a little strange since the SOT put the 4-prong on and I provided a new SF shim kit with it, but whatever.  Unlocked, it does have some friction between the lock ring and the rail, but feels indexed all the way and is fully loosened.  Locked, there's still a small gap between the rail and lock ring.  Is this something I should worry about?

It should be installed with the proper spacer, that's what I would worry about.

It's impossible for it to both not touch the rail unlocked and not have a gap locked at the same time. There's going to be a gap while locked.

As long as the barrel shoulder is true and it has enough room to fully seat, it shouldn't be a concern from a functional standpoint (the beveled spacer not only creates space but also assures concentricity on the off chance the shoulder isn't a true 90 degrees). I would definitely check concentricity, either visually if you feel comfortable doing it that way or with a bore check rod.

From a convenience standpoint, I'd prefer to have a bit more room. It can be handy to be able to slip a flathead between the collar and rail to pop it off when it gets carbon sticky.

Thanks.  For $6, I think I'll just buy a new kit, or call SF and probably get it for nothing.

Surefire sent me a shim kit for free but it took weeks to actually get it.

The second time I needed one I ordered it from here and had it in two days.

Most shimmed muzzle devices known for suppressor use (KAC, and well, all but SF) don't have the beveled spacer...

Given the amount of barrel whip and flex I have seen in slo-mo videos, I'd want a little more space between the RC2 and RIS II.

The rear of the RC1 is about .060" from the rail. The barrel would hit the rail on the side long before the RC1 would move back that far.

It depends on how long your barrel is among other tolerances.

There is a 1/28" variance in where the threads start alone.

Good point.

Do you know whether an RC would sit any closer/further away than the RC2?

Which one are you looking at? Stand along or scope ring mount? If stand alone, I think the stand alone trex arms mount and the arisaka mounts give you some extra height for passive.
