Has anyone ever milled a A1 or A2 grip with some lightening holes or manufactured one?

Sort of like this, but on a Ar grip not a foregrip

This is exactly what im looking for.  ITs for a ultralightweight 22 build.

Looks like that was an olympic arms OA-98, they came with that grip.  But now i think its alloy, im looking for aplastic one.  Might just have to mill it

At least they were metal.....

OP if you are going to ultra lightweight why not standard A2 grip or MOE type grip without the insert.

Guy i just talked to with a OA(8 says his is plastic...

DPMS maybe?  To get their pistol under "assault weapon" weight?

ETA Derp, should have read first.  It was probably Olympic Arms that I was thinking of.

I don't care how much weight doing that saves. I could not do that to a rifle

You could machine out slots in the polymer grip, but it is going to save you an ounce at most.

Aluminum is about 3 times denser than the polymer typically used in an AR grip, so even machining away slots it is going to end up being heavier overall than just a stock polymer grip.

Another option if you REALLY want to save grip weight is take a standard A1 or A2 grip and prune part of the bottom off like they did on the XM607 and XM608 models.

I was going to suggest milling out the sides of the magwell...  Wow, all of that just looks painful!

I agree!!! That guy did a terrible job, if you milled the magwell or took off a little meet you could get by, but please take the time to do it right so it doesn't look like a whack job

Why didn't they just picatinny those things so I could decorate them with FDE rail covers?  That would be WAY cooler.

Yes, and they can be quite painful if the shooter isn't wearing a glove.

You beat me to it. Laying a black rifle in the hot-sun makes it hotter than hell, the only thing cool on it is the plastic grip and for-end rail covers.
