is a 4150 barrel with vanadium added better than 4150 barrel without? Any tests done which one holds up better to high temps?

IIRC vanadium makes it easier to heat-treat the resulting steel.

Well made 4150 barrel > poorly made 4150v barrel
Same manufacturing process 4150v barrel > 4150 barrel.... but not by enough to really matter IMO.

As long as it's 4150 I'd focus on the manufacturing process (cut rifling vs hammer forging), the type of rifling, and weather it's bare, chrome lined, or nitrocarbeurized.
