Go to the auto parts store or Walmart, and get some synthetic 10w-30 motor oil

If you want to go cheap use any new automobile engine oil. If your picky use Walmart synthetic 10w-30.

Nothing wrong with 3n1 oil.  We've used it for years on rifles, shotguns and handguns.  I used some this weekend when I field stripped my M&Ps, looked them over and wiped them down.

I did a lot of outside work Friday and Saturday and sweated myself, the gun(s) and the magazines absolutely dripping wet.  I wiped them down with a dry rag, let them dry some on the kitchen table, then stripped them down and wiped them off/lubricated them with 3n1 oil.

I use Mobil 1 sometimes, just depends on where I'm at when I feel the need to lube and wipe down and what type of oil is there.

Used it for years, years ago.  Still ok but not first choice.  Learned it can gunk up in guns interiors where it is not easily reached, such is revolvers.

Yup.

For lube it's 10w-30 or 5w-20.

When I clean and store it gets breakfree LP, but when it shootin time I use motor oil.

Yes you can use it. Folks have for many Years. I would suggest to get some Synthetic Motor Oil, as it won't burn off so easily during your shooting sessions, and clings to parts better.

Yep.... Dad's old shotgun was one big gooey black carbon mess.   I had not cleaned it since he passed over 10 years ago.

I don't know if they changed it, but 3 in 1 oil used to offer no protection from rust.

not me, I use it for everything to include storage.  I've yet to have any issues and in storage, seems to stay in place unless I make them too wet.
