Hadn't ever noticed one like that before. Looks like the lower was brushed/buffed prior to Anodizing.

I'm going to go take off the mag catch from one of my rifles to make sure this doesnt have any negative effects.

This is a Mega Forged Lower BTW.

The edge of the hole for the mag catch "shaved down" in the middle.

Looks like someone hit it with a wheel to get some swarf off that was stuck to the edge. Probably the tool was getting dull. Doesn't affect anything at all.

Both my AR15s are flat and not rounded in this area, it could be a casting flaw from the mold using the lost wax method of casting. Meaning it wasn't milled from a solid piece of aluminium and cast in a mold.

Yes its a defect and how bad a defect will depend on you.

Just looked at my Mega lower, and its not like that.

I couldn't possibly see it being any sort of problem though.

None of my six AR's have that. But I really don't see any problems other than a cosmetic issue
.

It is either forged or billet.  Not cast.

Dude that lower is forged not cast.

Probably hit with a wheel post forging . took a little to much off. Don't think it will affect function. Can't see how it would affect function.

Put it together. Lock a mag in there and go to town.

Sometimes before anodizing, a shop monkey will take a file and debur some edges.  A little chamfer action in the area isn't a bad thing.

Quit staring at it so much and shoot it already.

It's fine man. I have a hard time seeing anything wrong. Some ppl here would cringe seeing all the little scratches my rifles get from being in a crowded safe.

Hey i'm just wondering. I was told Mega makes the NICEST forged lowers.

i seriously thought it was a trick post.
i finally saw the "flaw".(someone else showed me)
if it bothers you enough to endure the wait and the uncertainty, send it back.
a lower in the hand is very valuable now, i'd keep it and love it.

Man ....  I thought the flaw was the crack-looking mark on the right lug of the bolt release lever.

Its a Mega manufactured lower, I've seen the type he has before, just can't remember what the company name is.
It's like Rainier Lowers are Mega's with their own roll mark.

You can get "sterile" mega lowers as well.

LOL.

I was seriously tempted to give one to the guy who runs the shop as a hobby and put it up on the wall for $1000. Yesterday I waited 90 minutes for him to eventually fail at getting through to the PICS system. During that time 3-5 people looked at them and said how lucky I was and how they were pure gold.

The $2200 Bushmaster on consignment sold the today when I finally was able to pick them up and leave with them. It was only there for a few days. Guy tried to purchase after I left yesterday and he had the same issues with getting through to PICS. Guy paid with cash today!

If a mag catch fits and doesn't bind it should be good to go.

For the blem lower you may need to get a Norgon Ambi-catch so the recessed lines flow together...
