I just cut my FSB to fit under some new rails. What would be good to coat this with? I used a Birchwood Casey pen and that just rubbed off. Is there a high enough heat paint to withstand being used to coat it? |

Since it is going to be hidden under the handguard...the use of any hi-temp paint should suffice. Probably a flat black header paint would be best.

I used high heat barbeque paint. I believe it was Rust-oleum. It's held up fine.

Ditto on BBQ grill paint. Holding up well and the color match was about spot on.

You want some sort of bluing under the paint - if just to protect it should the paint come off in some bore solvent or something.
I use G96 gun blue paste. Heat up the part a little (just warm to touch, not real hot) and rub the paste on. Let it sit, then brush off with a soft tooth brush and water. Then rub some gun oil on it with a soft toothbrush. Wipe clean, and hit it with some BBQ flat paint. |

Just got some paint and painted it with Rust-oleum engine paint. The BBQ stuff was rated to 1200* and the engine is rated to 2000*.

Err, umm... Those are not aluminum... I went to Autozone and bought some brake caliper paint. It's very high temp and very durable, though durable is not really necessary for that application. |

Sprayed mind with 2000 degree high temp ceramic header paint like you would use on a header on a car, truck etc. You can buy it in a spray can at an automotive store for about $12~15.00 dollars. If it holds up, upto 2000 degree engine exhaust, well I've never had to respray my FSB and I've got thousands of rounds on it.

I got the one on the left-
Here it is now painted- 
The marks on the barrel is tape residue. Thanks to all that helped. |

Don't forget that stuff needs baked to fully cure. A few mag dumps should do nicely!
