Hey all, I found a DoubleStar Star-15 rifle with A1 handguards in a local gunshop and wanted to get an opinion if the rifle comes from a good/reliable company as I've never heard of them before.  The rifle looked like it had been used but not beat up too bad, I got the seller down to $675 out the door, is that a fair price?  I'd mainly use the gun as a range toy, plinking at targets, it also won't be cleaned very frequently. I don't know how that would affect function.  My other option is an AK variant.  I would appreciate thoughts because the only experience I have with the AR platform is from basic training.  Thanks.

They make a good quality middle level AR, I've never read anything bad about them. $675 seems too high for a used gun, especially when Bud's is selling them for $659  .

or $669 new.

Very good gun, have fun building it the way you want to.  $675.00 is a decent price now days.

I think there pretty good in my opinion. I saw them at one of the big gun shows and they apprea to be good quality. Expensive for sure. How they stack up to a Bravo Company, R Guns or lower models like Model 1 Sales I can't say but they're at least equivelent.

I have one of their lowers and its top notch.  The finish is nice and not the standard anodized finish.  It's smooth, dark black and glossy.  it has some kinda Teflon coating on it I think. I'm very happy with it

I have had 4 or 5 of their lowers - still have 3 - and lots of other parts including complete uppers and never had an issue. They are a site sponsor and have a forum in the industry section here if you have any questions.

I own one of the Star 15's with the H-bar barrel and I've been very pleased with it. It was my first AR15.

I think the first reply nailed it. The price seems too high for a used rifle, especially considering the deal at Bud's. If you decide to use mail-order be sure to check what your FFL charges for the transfer fee. In this area it's $25 but I've read of some places that are much higher.

They are very good quality, I used a Doublestar stripped lower in my build and it worked without any problems.

I have a Colt SP1 , Noveske N4 and Doublestar 16" chrome lined and the Doublestar shoots as good and reliable as the Colt and Noveske.

I've never used any of their lowers, but I have bought several barrels and other parts from them over the years. Never had any quality issues. The only issue Iever had was a few very slow shipping times and lack of response from customer service. That was about 4 years ago though....

Does anyone have any imput on these from multiple high round count classes? It seems like if something is going to fail it tends to happen when others are watching and waiting.

I had one and it always ran great. However when I sold it to upgrade rifles I found it had awful resale value.
