How far?  For me- i finally got to 750 the other day.   Was wondering how many others try to shoot further than 100.

Pretty regularly at the 500m range, I love to bang the gong there.

20" .223 upper.

My range only goes to ~675y or so.

The only 5.56 I have shot that far was my Noveske RECCE. It did quite well at that range. That RECCE and a LaRue 20" SSS are the best shooting 5.56 rifles I have ever shot.

Not to start shit, but IMO, anything past 3-400 yards and I think my OBR, or any other 7.62 is a much better tool.

300....but, every time I take it out.  This spring it will see distances almost triple that far.

300 yards (from the bench) - I don't think I can hit anything past that, to be completely honest with everybody here.  The farthest I've done standing up, off hand, is 200 yards and I'm still surprised how well I do at that.

200 yards is the longest public range around here in the bay area.

How every far the bullet goes when I shoot at a 45 degree angle.

Finally found a range that is 200 yards, YEAH! Living in PA sucks for distance shooting.

Currently my maximum shooting range that I usually go to is limited to 300 yd.

But a long time ago I tried my 20" A2 HBAR at 1000 yd in the desert, I can't hardly see the dust signature where the bullet impacted, at that range I prefer to shoot my .308 and .30-06 rifles.

500 yards for me but it's been a long time. The range I go to here only goes to 300,

Shouldn't there be a poll associated with this thread?

For me, 300 meters is the longest I have access to, wish I had a 500 yard range like the Marine KD qual range.

600 meters
M4 Carbine

ACOG

M855 ammo

My platoon was responsible for manning a mountain top OP - we made a "known distance range" using a laser range finder and a can of blue spray paint.  We started at 200 meters, and then made man sized silhouette targets up the ridge line on rock faces every 100 meters out to 800 meters.

Our field expedient range served better than a range card, allowed Soldiers at the OP to practice marksmanship, and gave them something to keep them alert.

From a prone supported position, I could get reliable hits using the bullet drop compensator on the 600 meter target.

500 with both a 20" m16a4 and m4 and acogs.  Land more than 90% inside an e mod human silhouette shooting m855 prone with a sling.  Pretty much no difference between the m4 and m16 that I can tell.  Barrel and ammo quality are the limiting factor imho.

i have hit a14"x12"  1/2 plate from 400 yards standing unsupported with a colt 6920 cut to 14.5"  and a aimpoint micro t-1 with privi m855 plate dented about half way through
from 200 yards unsupported the plate was mushroomed on back side and a hole all the way through the plate with a perfect expansion.
that suprised me more than the 400 shots

Most frequently 200 - 600 yds for High Power Matches. (200 & 300 yrds with Mk262 Mod1 and 600 yrd with 80 gr SMK's) (Barrel = 20" Krieger 1:7.7)

1000 yds for our monthly 1000 yrd match. (80 gr SMK's and 80 gr Berger VLD's) (Barrel = 26" WOA 1:7)

700 meters is as far as I have shot 5.56. 75 gr Berger vlds work great . Hope to strech that to 800 meters this spring.

Anything further I will use a different platform.

I was wondering how those extra holes were appearing in my targets here in northern NJ.

I've taken mine to a 600meter range a few times. But the 400 meter plates are the furthest I can hit consistantly with a 4 power Acog & 16" Brl.

Only 300 so far.  I usually only shoot them at 200 though.

Going to be trying one of them out at 500 in a couple week.

Any where from 100 to 900 (a little over this before the back tree line) depending on the target and the oppurtunity. My oldest son laughs because he can hit farther with a 223 than most can with a 308.. I do like shooting the #9 IPSC target at the 900 yard mark w/ my S.A. N.M. though.

Here is a pic of the back side w/ the farthest distance being to the right. Semi wooded area with big breaks to the 979 yard mark.  There are steel gongs and target arms through out the back side of the property. We used to have some of the Swedish military surplus motorized target stands but they locked up after about 20 years of use. They were very similar to the Larue ones they sell to LEO only, just a lot cheaper.

It is also nice to take the time and take targets of oppurtunity. Crows, dirt clods (not rocks) pine cones, prairie dogs, etc are all excellent long range targets that will challenge you. I have always prefered field shooting over range shooting hands down. That is half the reason I bought a large track of property.
