Looks like they took the standard Colt HBAR, turned it down for a .750 carbine length FSB, and turned it down for a .625 rifle length FSB. It's a step down "constant taper". Probably pretty heavy. |

Spinta Precision has rifle gas Dissipator barrels up on their website now. https://www.spintaprecision.com/16-223-wylde-dissipator-barrel-w-tin-barrel-extension-1-7-sale/
It's been a long time coming since they said they would have some in February. I'm a little sad the gas journal is so short, but I'll see how my A.R.M.S. clamp on FSB plays with it. Worst case, I just have to shim it a little. Hopefully this will lighten up my GWOT Dissy significantly. |

Came here for some buying/building advice.
Here's the scoop: my father in law really wants an AR and he likes the traditional 20" A2 look but he'd be better off with the 16" barrel for his use and for the lighter weight/ easier handled OAL. I showed him this idea and well here I am. Google brought me here and I'm glad I found it on ARF because this community is great to work with. I have built several ARs but never tinkered with a dissipator style rifle. Now that I've seen them all over here, I may even want one for myself. The greatest question is how the hell do you get em? I can't find them and if I do they're outrageously priced (450) for just the barrel assembly. When you find them, who is reputable? I'm used to the major names so a lot of the companies and retailers I've found during this research analysis has left me, uninformed in reputation and quality. Used market?? I saw several people modified 16 inch barrels to accommodate this style, and I'd be willing to tackle it with more instruction, if that can be provided with relative precision in regards to parts and tools needed. Appreciate any advice or feedback you can give. |

Appreciate any advice or feedback you can give. View Quote Everything is hard to find right now. I'm not sure what you are seeing for $450. Even a CHF chrome lined barrel is cheaper than that. You can cut down a rifle length gas system barrel to 16". May not be the most reliable. The problem with rolling your own with a carbine length or midlength gas system is that the barrel isn't quite the right diameter where the FSB needs to go. Not that you can't do it, it just won't be the same as buying one. |

View Quote Multiple options on the table even with the current parts availability. Resourceful way: You could find a heavy profile mid-length barrel and have it turned down to accept an A2 FSB at the proper location. This would have the most gun smith costs(profiling, pinning, chop, thread, etc.) But, you should be able to find a barrel candidate relatively easily. Easier way: Cut down a 20” A2 style barrel assembly. However, as previously stated, the gas system may not be optimal. Only have the pay a smith to chop and rethread. Easiest way: Be patient, buy a complete upper once your find one in stock. Unlikely way: Get lucky and a guy like me might sell a used one. ADCO for the win. And yes, I still have mine! Attached File Found an old test target, shot with the above rifle from the bench with a bipod. I didn't have the can at the time. 100 yds Attached File Can’t believe this thread has been going for 10 years! |

The waiting game sounds like a better choice. I'm not in a rush, this is just more niche than what I'm used to delving in. But gosh damn these rifles not only make sense but they look so damn good, too.
Especially with a can, wow. I see people mentioned Faxon as having the upper/barrel available at one time. Anyone else with a good rep to watch? If in a few months I can't make any progress I'll look into "frankenstein" working a barrel up. Seeing as its for someone else I wouldn't want to chance the reliability potentially being an issue with a rifle length system. |
