Well, since the old one is archived I don't see a problem with starting another. I guess I should start:

Here is my first. I bought it with some mods in mind.. namely barrel and FCG.
Can anyone tell me if there are SP1 parts on it?

No, it's a frankengun... barrel is CORE, lower is older Bushmaster and other parts are Colt.

Finally got mine functionally put together, gonna be changing the stock and most likely the handguard if I can get a wood one done up for me.
Fulton 604 Upper with M4 feedramps with a certain company's 16" 6.8 scout profile barrel and bolt in a JP LMOS QPQ'd carrier. Charging handle is a Fortis Clutch, wanted to keep the right side as slicksided as possible. Has a Brownell's retro AR-10 handguard and closed flash hider. I'll be throwing on a Griffin Linear Comp when my Nomad gets approved.

Lower is an M4E1 put together with a mil-spec LPK and a Larue MBT-2S. Has a Bexar Arms flatwire spring and empty rifle buffer in the Doublestar ARFX. Grip is the Blackwood Trading Marksman grip. Mags are PRI.

Well, I changed up my plans for this build, but I think it came out even better than I had hoped:

6.8 SPC Dissy built off a Fulton 604 upper with M4 feed ramps, an unmentionable brands 16" 3R Scout profiled barrel and matched superbolt. Uses a BRN-10 handguard with a wrap made out of an old Vietnam era bandoleer. Changed up the muzzle device to a smaller brake for use with my Nomad I'm waiting on.

Lower is an M4E1 lower with an A1 stock painted to mimic a 601 stock and a Griffin Armament A3 grip in OD.

Interesting barrel profile. Looks like they took the standard Colt HBAR, turned it down for a .750 carbine length FSB, and turned it down for a .625 rifle length FSB. It's a step down "constant taper". Probably pretty heavy.

Midlength. Looked for a rifle gassed barrel, but 6.8 is not a great choice for rifle gassed barrels. Plus, I didn't want to spend more just to chop and thread the barrel.

Spinta Precision has rifle gas Dissipator barrels up on their website now. https://www.spintaprecision.com/16-223-wylde-dissipator-barrel-w-tin-barrel-extension-1-7-sale/
It's been a long time coming since they said they would have some in February.
I'm a little sad the gas journal is so short, but I'll see how my A.R.M.S. clamp on FSB plays with it. Worst case, I just have to shim it a little. Hopefully this will lighten up my GWOT Dissy significantly.

In the interest on continuity, here's a couple of my 605. Best AR I've ever had. Things a laser. Colt period M16A1 chrome-lined barrel that was pitted on the outside, cut down by Heatnbeat years ago. Early 604 upper, type C stock my buddy Ol'gunner gave me one year for Christmas. Original chrome BCG. ALG ACG trigger, the rest is Colt & NDS. Mag is early steel continuous curve.

I dont think I ever posted this one. It's super smooth and shoots like a bb gun.

It's got a complete BCM lower, hiperfire reflex trigger, Vltor A5 with an A5H0 buffer, BCM MK2 upper, BCM full auto bcg, chopped Giessele handguard, Spinta Precision dissy barrel, ect. I was kind of worried that with the buffer and full auto carrier it wouldnt be reliable, but it's been great. I've run the crap out of it suppressed, dirty, and in very sub-optimal conditions without any issues.

I'm already collecting parts for a similar dissy that's much lighter and setup like my other camo dissy as this one is even smoother than than the camo one, but I like the setup of the camo one. Only it will be lighter than both.

In the pic with the 3 guns, all 3 are 16" rifle gassed. The one on the far right has a light weight bcg, buffer, adjustable gas, and is tuned to the ammo I shoot... and the dissy with the LPVO is still smoother with that A5.

Came here for some buying/building advice.

Here's the scoop: my father in law really wants an AR and he likes the traditional 20" A2 look but he'd be better off with the 16" barrel for his use and for the lighter weight/ easier handled OAL. I showed him this idea and well here I am.

Google brought me here and I'm glad I found it on ARF because this community is great to work with.

I have built several ARs but never tinkered with a dissipator style rifle. Now that I've seen them all over here, I may even want one for myself.

The greatest question is how the hell do you get em? I can't find them and if I do they're outrageously priced (450) for just the barrel assembly.

When you find them, who is reputable? I'm used to the major names so a lot of the companies and retailers I've found during this research analysis has left me, uninformed in reputation and quality.

Used market??

I saw several people modified 16 inch barrels to accommodate this style, and I'd be willing to tackle it with more instruction, if that can be provided with relative precision in regards to parts and tools needed.

Appreciate any advice or feedback you can give.

Everything is hard to find right now.

I'm not sure what you are seeing for $450. Even a CHF chrome lined barrel is cheaper than that.

You can cut down a rifle length gas system barrel to 16". May not be the most reliable.

The problem with rolling your own with a carbine length or midlength gas system is that the barrel isn't quite the right diameter where the FSB needs to go. Not that you can't do it, it just won't be the same as buying one.

Multiple options on the table even with the current parts availability.

Resourceful way: You could find a heavy profile mid-length barrel and have it turned down to accept an A2 FSB at the proper location. This would have the most gun smith costs(profiling, pinning, chop, thread, etc.) But, you should be able to find a barrel candidate relatively easily.

Easier way: Cut down a 20” A2 style barrel assembly. However, as previously stated, the gas system may not be optimal. Only have the pay a smith to chop and rethread.

Easiest way: Be patient, buy a complete upper once your find one in stock.

Unlikely way: Get lucky and a guy like me might sell a used one. ADCO for the win.

And yes, I still have mine!

The waiting game sounds like a better choice. I'm not in a rush, this is just more niche than what I'm used to delving in. But gosh damn these rifles not only make sense but they look so damn good, too.

Especially with a can, wow.

I see people mentioned Faxon as having the upper/barrel available at one time. Anyone else with a good rep to watch?

If in a few months I can't make any progress I'll look into "frankenstein" working a barrel up. Seeing as its for someone else I wouldn't want to chance the reliability potentially being an issue with a rifle length system.
