I've never felt a special target necessary.
http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=328143 using these... http://www.munitions.com/targets/ I use center hold so it doesn't matter what size target I want to shoot at... pop cans, pie plates, NRA targets, yadayada... These resources should be pretty self contained but please tell me if I've left you high and dry. |

Draw a circle on a piece of paper, or trace a quater, then trace a dinner plate keeping the quarter in the center. There you go. POI= POA at 50 yards no matter what the target is.

All this talk about a 50 yard zero and not a word on how the rear sight is modified to make the IBZ work with the ranges on the elevation drum.
For a red dot or any other 1x optical sight, a 50 yd zero is a very good option as it results in approx. a 200 yd. far zero. Now if you're using a magnified scope, you probably will want to zero it at 100 so the range-finding reticle will be indexed and you can use the hold-over lines for 2,3 and 400 yds (or whatever arrangement your scope has). |
