I'm thinking of building an A1 KISS rifle but I don't know who makes a good A1 upper receiver and who makes a good A1 buttstock.  Any suggestions?

PK firearms sells A1 uppers, bushmaster, midway.Your best bet is to watch the used EE for an A1 upper and A1 buttstock.Im pretty sure there is some listed on there right now.

Edit:You should think about doing and IDF build.I saw some A1 uppers on the used EE and some A1 pistol grips too.

Bushmaster and many of their dealers carry their "A1" uppers which are really C7/723 uppers as they have the Brunton bump.  If you want the older style (no bump) upper NoDak Spud has them.

A1 length fixed stocks are available from Cav Arms.

I thought Cav Arms was going out of business, are they still selling?  How's the quality?

I don't mind the bump so the 723 will work.  Any other mfr's besides Bushy?

DPMS sells C7 type uppers as well.

No one besides Cav Arms that I know of still makes an A1 length buttstock.  The gun furniture side of the business is supposed to still be open for business.

The originals do pop up fairly often on the EE.  I am hoarding one for a build myself.

Cav Arms C-1 is usually good stuff.

Complete USGI M16A1 (trapdoor) buttstocks (lower extension tube, buffer, recoil spring and all) available from Sarco for $65. I just used one on my new KISS heavy-duty A3 middy and it appeared to be new and unused. If I may make a small sugestion - why limit your future uses of the gun with an A1 or A2 upper? An A3 with carry handle will fill the same role plus you can put an optic on it later.

Because I already have four A3 rifles.  I think it'd be fun to go with an A1 with a simplified/lighter rear sighting system..

Slightly askew from the topic, anyone know if -A1 stocks can be had in OD Green?

model 1 sales sells a black A1 stock...with buffer tube and spring for 55 bucks

I limited myself to a Bushmaster A1/C7 upper because I wanted a lightweight, KISS, iron sights only build. This is between 5 and 5.25 pounds.

Many people prefer the A1 style rear sight due to the simplicity and reliable zero hold. Good choice.

Hi Kabob, I hear ya. I've got 4 A3 uppers and 2 M16A2 uppers, when I found an old M16A1 (603, 1971-74) upper this past weekend I just had to have it.

It was a A1 without shell deflector, with original triangular handguards and C MP B pencil barrel with older bird cage flash suppressor.

Do the Bushmasters or Nodaks have M4 feed ramps?  That M4 thing seems to be all the rage these days.  I'm thinking a BCM midlength barrel might be nice for a kiss. Yes? No?

NoDak's uppers do not have M4 ramps, I don't know about Bushmasters. You really won't need them with a semi-auto 5.56 and you can use a ramped barrel extension with a nonramped upper with no problem.

I was thinking that was a safe combination.

It doesn't have to be 100% accurate, I want A1 "style."  An A1 style upper with the bump and M4 cuts along with a new barrel would be fine.

With good components and assembly, there's no reason it wouldn't be as accurate as any other AR with iron sights.

DPMS sells their a1 uppers with M4 cuts in the white... not such a big deal though

ETA i also had a bushmaster a1 that had M4 cuts that were not anodized... not sure if they are still that way though.
