I'm deciding if I should go with the 6920 or 6940.  I'm leaning towards the 6940 as I want a quad rail hand guard anyway and I prefer the fold down iron sights instead of the fixed front and carry handle.  How is the quality of the stock colt folding iron sights and quad rail?  Is it better to go with the already configured 6940 or go out an buy a quad rail and fold down iron sights?  Also, I was told the stock front sight on the 6920 is not removable, but it seems like I see many of them without them, just curious what the deal is with it.  Thanks.

You can remove the FSP on the 6920.  I did.  It just takes you tapping out the pins and replacing it with whatever you want. As far as what is better.  Thats all gonna be personal preference.  Right now, there is no barrel wrench for the 6940 so  if you wana change something that requires you removing the barrel, your SOL.  They say it will be out anytime now, but they've also been saying that since the gun came out early last year.

My only advice is to go and hold a 6940 and make sure it feels right in your hands. I was considering one and once I held it I realized the rails are way to fat for me.

I have a 6940.  I had a 6920.  Both are great.  I like the 6940 better.  I shoot better with it too. Nothing more to say.

How is the quality of the flip iron sights on the 6940?

I love my 6940. The front sight is very sturdy and I just keep it up all the time anyway. The Matech sight is ok, I replaced mine with a Troy sight though because I use this gun for HD and wanted the best sight I could get. I just use the Matech on another rifle

I've heard too many stories about the "popcycle stick" breaking on the matech.  Replace it with a Troy as stated previously and you'll be good.

I've owned both and prefer the 6920. I like to continually make changes to my guns as well as generally prefer a longer rail with a low pro gas block. However, the 6940 is a great option if you

happen to prefer that configuration and didn't care to make changes anyway.

Neither one - they're both obselete carbine-length gas systems. I can't believe anybody is still buying short-handguard carbines now that the mid-length is out. If you must have a Colt, I guess the 6940. I would have ADCO cut the barrel back and weld on the flash hider to make a 16" barrel - at least it wouldn't look as ridiculous with all that barrel out in front of the short handguard. But, you can't do anything about that short sight radius - you're stuck with that.

both are good.

if you think  you will never later want to play with another rail or longer rail, the 6940 will be all you ever need.

the front site is very sturdy and really nice, adjusts the same as a standard site, the 6940 is a lot more accurate and that is something to think about.

the 6920 will be a little cheaper, but maybe not after you  change it to what you want.  You should go try a 6940 and a 6920 out before you decide, you may want a longer rail  and the KAC  SR15 is  equal to a 6940 with a longer rail   and has a flip up front site as well. and a few other nice touches, though its price shows  this

but if you dont like to always change your guns, I vote 6940
