Try to get a small punch and fit it into the staking hole, then wobble it around until you can un-stake it...

Apply some heat, too.
Sometimes they're loctited in addition to staked. |

Best wat to remove staking: use a small drill to slowly remove the staking, yes this will most likely trash the buffer tube castle nut, but that's a cheap part to replace. Once staking is removed the nut will break free with a little effort. |

I have heard they stopped but don't know when compared to when this one was build. It probably will not be as easy as you say. If so you are lucky. John builds gun for work use and not to fail such is the reason for the locktight. |
