FUG

I like the Dieter CQC also, but the versatility of the QD LaRue VFG is hard to beat.

I have a Tango Down BGV-ITI foregrip.

Big enough for my hand and is pretty secure... Has a removable tail cap so you can store batteries and such inside as well as a space to remove part of the grip to install a pressure switch if you plan on running a light at a later time... wasn't that expensive either.

With the exception of one Tango Down Grip, I use Knights on all mine.  I like the size and they can be had for around $25 used in the EE.

I'd say KAC's.
But I don't own a FUG yet.

Start with something relatively inexpensive like a KAC to see if a VFG is for you.  My first (and only) VFG was a KAC ...it came with my RAS II "shot show special".   I  quickly realized I don't like a VFG.

If you get a KAC, then realize you "need" a VFG. chuck the cheapie in a drawer and pony up more cash for a better one

KNIGHTS.

Keep it simple.  You don't need the QD feature on a vertical grip.  WHY would you want to QD a vertical grip once your have it set where you want it?

Go with the combat tested KAC.  It's the best value for the money.  You could probably pick one up for $15 or less.  Use your $$$ saving on ammo and training.

Some people shoot their rifles from the bench as well.  Being able to remove the VFG quickly is nice.  Not everyone uses their rifles in the same ways.  YOU don't need QD, and that's fine.  But don't tell me I don't, just because you don't think I should.

I can see needing QD on something like an optic mount for quick removal in case of failure.  But a QD VFG is more a want, than a need.  Besides, I think of most VFGs as QD.  Since I don't use rail covers on the bottom rail, I can have my KAC off in a matter of seconds.

ETA: I have just officially coined the phrase "KAC Off".

Well I should of been a little more descriptive before asking opinions.

I don' t have big hands, so nothing to bulky, second I do like the foldable feature and third I do like the QD because it seems more convenient. My FFL dealer had the commad arms foldable foregrip.  I like it a lot, it wasn't too long, it was foldable. But it had a huge fault that I didn't like. It was like holding on to a soda can. Way to bulky and not very comfortable. If it was a lot thinner I would of picked it up right away.

So i'm looking for a foldable w/QD forgrip. And I can't seem to find one that will suit my smaller hands.

Also i'm not looking to spend an arm and leg for a forgrip. Personally not worth it.

as long as you don't pay list for it. KAC list it for $60 or some ridiculous thing. KAC and GG&G are the same grip except the GG&G has storage and the list is much lower.

i like the kiss design of both of them.

best advise you can get. I like my TD 'stubby'; hard to get on, impossible to wiggle and the rail
would break before it does. But you may get tired of all the clutter and fall for a KISS like I did
so don't go overboard on an expensive one that serves no better purpose.

So they say, but I get better support and leverage with my elbow locked in tighter.

Is that a reworked TD and if so how'd you cut that down and still use the screw in cap or is it all glued together?

Never mind, I see it's not a TD.

Grip pods are good, if you want a bipod.

For a real VFG, Tango Down all the way.  I prefer the stubby QD.  The non-QD is a complete bitch to install and uninstall, the QD is worth the extra 20 bucks.

I don't think that exists.  If it's QD, why does it need to fold?

I have never heard anything about Troy's modular grip...  It's got interchangable sizes like the FUG, made of aluminum, and is a little cheaper...  But it's not QD, which is deffinately a nice feature to have.  Anyone had any experience with the Troy grip?  I kind of want to try it out.  The aluminum construction appeals to me.

The use of a stubby grip for hand position reference only is a fairly recent phenom.  It was born in competition and has spread in practice via MSMD (Monkey See, Monkey Do).  I have tried both and still prefer using a standard VFG as the traditional prop support and not as a hand position reference.  You should get an inexpensive grip like a used KAC and try both before investing in a better grip.  Do what works best for you, and not what you see everyone else doing.

I believe the FUG is made of Delrin (someone correct me if I am wrong). There is no real advantage to Al over Delrin. Somewhere I saw a video of a guy taking a ball peen hammer to a FUG while on a LaRue rail (that video is what sold me). It held up to a large amount of abuse. Color will never wear off the FUG (unless you paint it). And living in Texas, if you left your gun in the sun while its 102 for even 15 minutes, Delrin is going to feel a lot better than Aluminum when you pick it up.

+1 LaRue Tactical FUG (Forward Universal Grip), short configuration shown on my LaRue 9.0 FF rails

Their price is higher but you get a lot of features like, 3 convertible lengths, sealed storage, adjustable tension QD, very robust material and design, they're worth it.

It's my current favorite VFG and I have also TangoDown and KAC.

For trial use just get a cheap tapco VFG. They now make a stubby version or you can just cut down the longer version to whatever size you want.

How about the Bobro? I have one, got it for my M14 in a Rigid Rail Modification stock (has a front rail, running the length of the forearm) because from reading about the bipod I wanted (Tango Down Advanced Combat) wouldn't allow for a VFG with a QB lever.

The Bobro isn't a "true" QB, but it IS pretty dang fast and it's ROCK steady when you tighten it onto the handle.

Grip Pod on all my carbines.

Wouldn't have it any other way. If someone else hadn't invented them I would have done it myself.

It's a grip when you're up, and a full license to rock and roll, knowing your are eating the center of your target,  in prone or from any stable surface.

If you don't need a QD grip, take a look at the CAA Folding Vertical Grip.  I picked one up on a whim to see if I would like a VFG, it was inexpensive and I liked the idea of a folding grip.  I use it with a thumb forward grip close to the gas block and find it works well in that mode.  You can fold the handle back and then you have a low profile handstop instead of a full VFG.  I tried the KAC Handstop, but took it off and put the CAA back on.

The storage area cap doesn't stay in place if you're rough with it, but I don't really need that so it didn't bother me at all.

Here is mine, I'm sure the Larue and TD grips are good but this just works for me.

My ffl dealer had one but it's way to bulky for my hands. I didn't feel comfortable griping it. I like the idea that it's inexpensive, it's not too long but if they could make it way skinner that would be great. I can do away with the storage compartment if they just made it skinny.

Now that you mention it, that's probably what I like about it!  Since I use it
like a large handstop the flatter frontal area of the grip gives me more
area to use when pulling the rifle into my shoulder.

I can see how it might be too wide if you utilize it with a wrap around grip.  Best of luck on your search!
