Ok, I just purchased this Stag LH model ar15. I removed one of the front sling mounts that was wrapped around the barrel. And I think im going to drill out the rivet and pull the other front mount off and mount a Daniel Defense Rail Adapter Quick Release on the rails. But I was looking and seen this was probably made for something. Just wondering what it was for...

Also any easy ways to get the other front sling mount off. I dont want to mess up the front Iron sight. But dont want the other swivel thing on there.

Also sorry about the crappy pics.. my phone is horrible for some reason and my camera is dead.

Thanks in advance.

That's a bayonet lug.  It is what the bayonet mounts on, along with the flash hider.  Don't drill out the cross pins on the front site base.  Drive them out with a punch or find someone who knows what they are doing to do it for you.

If you don't know what a bayonet lug is, I doubt you need to be taking off a FSB.

No flame intended.  But don't mess up a perfectly good gun.

You can mount the bayonet but that will give the rifle horns

Use a drill, and drill on the side of the rivet that's been peened. You only have to drill enough of the rivet off in order to punch the rest of the rivet out through the other side.

no offense taken. I had a feeling it was for that. I dont want to remove the whole front sight just the one pin that holds the sling mount on. I deff. dont want to mess up the gun or the front sight. Just think its useless on there with using a diff. sling mount

You can either replace your FSB with a railed gas block and then choose whatever flip-up sight you want, or you can get a gas block with a built-in flip up sight.
