That's a bayonet lug. It is what the bayonet mounts on, along with the flash hider. Don't drill out the cross pins on the front site base. Drive them out with a punch or find someone who knows what they are doing to do it for you.
If you don't know what a bayonet lug is, I doubt you need to be taking off a FSB. No flame intended. But don't mess up a perfectly good gun. -David Edgewood, NM |

You can mount the bayonet but that will give the rifle horns

Use a drill, and drill on the side of the rivet that's been peened. You only have to drill enough of the rivet off in order to punch the rest of the rivet out through the other side.

I dont want to remove the whole front sight just the one pin that holds the sling mount on. I deff. dont want to mess up the gun or the front sight. Just think its useless on there with using a diff. sling mount |

Or do they make a better front sight that dosnt have anything on it but the sight? Any links or names?

You can either replace your FSB with a railed gas block and then choose whatever flip-up sight you want, or you can get a gas block with a built-in flip up sight.

PUT DOWN THE DRILL AND BACK AWAY FROM THE CARBINE! Just shoot it for awhile.

The front sight tower is also the gas block. That's what makes your gun work. Do not remove anything.
You can tap out the rivet with a pin punch to removel the sling swivel. But you have to be careful. Again, get help before you screw up the rifle. |
