I was purchase a flat top carbine upper that doesn't have the F marked front sight base. I was reading another thread that where it was recommended to replace the front sight post with the taller front sight post. How hard will that be to do and what special tools if any are recommended? Also is it really necessary, I read on another board that most of the time you could get away without the taller front sight post. Just trying to find out what I need to do.

Thanks

first try to zero your carbine

only if you cant zero it get a taller front sight post and a frond sight tool like this

just unscrew the old post and replace with the taller one

No, it's not always necessary. You'll have to find out when you get to the range. I was easily able to bzo all of my non-F stamped FSB carbines without the taller post. If you find that you do need to change, then all you do is twist it out. A FSP tool makes this happen in about 20 seconds.
