Looking to pick up this upper at a local shop, $670 ..same one as on the GG&G web site...are these uppers good?????

There is nothing wrong with them.  It will end up running you $800+ when you add the bolt assembly and charging handle.  You are getting a flip up front sight and a flip up rear which is nice.  The rail is real solid but I'm not a big fan of the design and it is not free float.  It's a great quality part, but I have got rid of mine and moved on to different uppers that I am happier with.
