If I mount a bipod on a railed gas block to you think this would any way compromise the gun's accuracy?

Pretty much the standard now.

But before there were railed HG’s there were barrel mounted bi-pods.

I have standard handguards...does anyone know where I can a cheap picantinny rail adapter?

If your going with a Harris bi-pod, they make an adapter specifically for the standard HG’s.

Myself, I would be leery of mounting on a railed gas block.

By coincidence, I just bought a Harris bipod for my SIG-556 today, and just finished mounting it with a Picatinny rail adaptor by Command Arms Accessories.

With my EOTech 512, I consider this to be my "precision tactical rifle."

I just picked up a chepo Oly Arms adaptor and for the life of me can't get it on the rail. I managed to get about half an inch onto the rail and had to smack it back off with a hammer.
Anyone run into this???

that was a different time, and they didn't have anything better to go on.

anything that contacts the barrel will affect accuracy.

put a free floated rail on your AR, and mount the bipod to that. you'll gain accuracy from free floating, and eliminate any outside influences on the barrel.

The acceptable accuracy standard for an M16 was something like 3 or 4 MOA with M193/855. Barrel contact isn't going to have much of an effect in that setting.

if you're talking about the picture, that's not even an AR. that's a sig 556.

and i'm not familiar with any rails that require drilling.

those rail sections will bolt to the holes that are already in your handguards, but will put stress on the barrel if a bipod is used.

however, unless you're shooting <1moa, you probably won't notice.

Thanks for the help man!!! I am working on my first build on a limited budget. I wish I had all the money to trick one out without price being an issue. Do you know where I can find some cheap free float hand guards for a 16" carbine?

look into YHM.

several of the dealers linked above carry them. they are some of the most inexpensive out there. they're excellent for the money.

I know this is off the thread topic just a pinch....but what kind of group can I expect with a standard 16" carbine at 100 yards? As for the shooter end with my .30-06 I am 2 MOA shooter.

Picatinny rail interface is supposed to be an industry wide standard of tolerances that ensures universal compatibility among different components. But to answer your question of some adapters being very tight, yes, I have run into that before myself. When I was mounting my Surefire onto my AR using a rail adapter, the adapter I was using (made by CAA) was an EXTREMELY tight fit. I ended up taking a file and working on the inside grooves of the adapter a little bit, to open up the tolerance a little. Then, I VERY GENTLY tapped it gradually into place with a tap hammer. I'm thinking maybe a little WD-40 might help the process too, but I would also like to hear if anyone else has ever run into that, and if so, how do the pros handle it?

yea it will be fine, is it also chrome lined? they make chrome-moly barrels with and with out chrome lining. i wouldnt expect target gun accuracy out of it though.
