I bought a DPMS LR Tac-20 .308 20 inch Barrel and I want the BEST GLASS that I can find for it as it is going to be for my Grandsons Grad Gift. With what I know, and that is not alot, I think it is going to be a toss up, Leupold MK4, or a Nightforce scope. I would thank you guys very much for your opinions on these two lines of optics. To narrow it down, I would like something in the 4X10X50, or 4X16x50, or there abouts, But I want a lighted reticle for sure. If you Guys have any pointers to some other scopes please let me know. I am kind of wondering about this Millet tactical scope, becuse I have installed Millet sights on all of my Smith&Wesson revolvers, and my Buddies on the PD for there backups and they are top notch. Any help you can give me on the Optics I would be very thankfull.
My Best Regards To All,
Don.

S&B or US Optics

Leupold and NightForce are not in the hunt for the "best" sorry.

Personally, I would look hard at the S&B PMII line.  US Optics goes dead on illumination at max power in under 12 hours.

Go bigger or go Homer.  Doh!

Zeiss Victory Diavari 6-24 x 72 Illuminated w/Rapid 1000 reticle.  $3500

The look on your face when someone beats that?  Priceless.

Leupold and Nightforce may be marginally behind the S&B and US Optics scopes.  99% of shooters will never notice the difference.  All four companies produce excellent optics.  You'll be very happy with the Mark 4 or NXS line of scopes.

Well you're askin for the best which is why you got S&B responses - but I'm guessing that you don't want to spend $3K?

Between the two that you list, I'd personally be friggen really happy with a Leupold.

Haven't seen those yet.  I did look, though.  Which ones?

You might look at the Nikon Tactical before Loopy and Nightforce.  Leupolds are tough and Nightforce are bright, but the brightest scopes in the price range are the Nikons.  I hear they may be a little fragile, though.

Id go with the NF in a Larue mount - you won't be sorry.  I've got a NF on my 50 BMG and it can take a beating and is nice and bright with a clear sharp picture.

1st off, what is the budget? the "best glass" (which is usually relative to the size of the wallet....) doesnt really help

for the price: super sniper

Leupold, nightforce, Sch and ben, zeiss, swavarski, etc are all great glass--expect to pay though

NF and Leupold are definitely not in the same catagory...

USO and S&B actually are not always above NF in the clarity catagory either.....

A USO custom built to your shooter's choice of magnification, adjustment type, and reticle is probably the way to go.
