How do you install the Magpul Ladder Rail Protectors. Do they slide on the rail or can you snap them in from the top of the rail.

I have a  rail system that I dont want to remove all my accesories just to slide these protectors on.  I am hoping that all you need to do is snap them in from the top. Is this possible. Or are they made from a hard rubber which will prevent it from snapping on.

thanks

Are they made from a hard plastic or soft rubber?
