So I got back today from vacation with the family.  My FFL called and some of my items came in.  Also FedEx and USPS had some things for me:

Leupold VXIII 8.5x25x50 LR Varmint Reticle for my DPMS .204 AR
SOG folding knife
Insight Typhoon light with strobe feature (from Brightflashlights.com)

very nice!

I'd like to see a picture of the Leupold VXIII 4.5x14x40 LR, if it isn't too much trouble.
I've kinda been looking around for one about that size

hey, thanks!
I kinda like the looks of that mark 4 4.5-14x40.
what are your opinions of them?

ETA:  I noticed that there aren't any markings on the dials for wind and elevation.  are you supposed to just guess?  or am I just blind?

I really like the Mark 4.  Right now it has the LaRue mount on it and I am using it for Varmint hunting on another AR.  But this scope normally sits on top of my .300 ultramag.

The only reason I did not get the Mark 4 in my new Leupolds is because I really wanted the varmint reticles for my .243 Aackley and my DPMS in Ruger .204.

I got this scope in October and only used the Mark 4 once this past fall on a whitetail hunt in Manitoba.  I also just used it a second time this month shooting a few prairie dogs.  There is a side of me that wants to try a Nightforce 3.5x15x50 on my .300 ultra mag and I am really liking the light gathering of the 50mm lenses.  I may sell the Mark 4 in order to get a Nightforce even though I am a Leupold guy.

My wife just got new boobs so I thought I would get me some toys too!  I am a greedy pig cause I benefit either way!  I got the RRA from Legal Transfers.  I ordered it in February and it just came in this week.

I fired off about 20 rounds with her this morning and all I can say is "FUN".   If I had not run out of 9mm ammo I might not have gone to work today!

You are not blind.  Knobs have covers on them.  This scope is set up so I may send it in to a company I found who can match this scope and knobs to the ballistics of my bullet.  I forget the name of the company off hand but if you do a search and watch "Best of the West" they employ the same  system and consistently take game at 600-1,000 yards.  The ballistics can only be done thus far with Leupold scopes with target knobs.

I have a new .300 ultra mag rifle being built off a Remington 700 action.  It will employ a McMillan stock and Lilja #5 barrel.  The builder is one of the top gunsmiths in the country and his rifles are often seen in national competitions.  He is helping me in my desire to become a better long range shooter when it comes to hunting big game.
