Need help with a rail purchase

Im wanting to get a Larue rail for my RRA Entry Tactical Carbine. I was looking at there 7.0 but talked to a friend and he recommended getting a 9.0 and getting a new gas block. Im new to this so I would like some help/input from all you guys out there. What do most ppl get for a carbine, the 7" or 9" and etc. Thanks!

If you get the 9", you need a new front sight to attach to the rail in addition to the gas block. That's what I'd do.

so you would get the 9 instead of the 7? Is there any advantages/disadvantages of getting the 9" rail over the 7?

I would get the 9". The only disadvantage is that you have to buy a sight that attaches to the rail. I think it looks better personally.

It is all about looks.

With the 7.0 - the rail will be behind the standard gas block - and allow you to use a standard FSB.

SOME people like using a 9, 10, 11, 12, or 13.2, and completely covering the gas block with the rail. It provides a tiny amount more real estate to mount objects on - required by some if they need that..... but then you probably would not be looking at the 9, you'd be considering at least a 12.0.

If you use a 9" or greater - you MUST purchase a low profile gas block, and some type of front sight and attach it to the rail. If you like that "look" and dont mind the extra dough... go for it.

Personally, on my go-to carbine, I like the 7.0 with the factory FSB. Less to buy, less to break. But I like the looks of some of the longer tubes as well.

Get the 9.0 rail and the gas block. LaRue also offers the Troy front sights. One stop shopping for two great companies. LaRue is a good company to deal with. The advantage of the 9.0 is that when you add a Larue bipod mount you still have enough room for your hand. This is the set up on my Bushmaster and it works great.

For you guys saying get the 9.0.... if you are going to cover the block - then why not a 10,11, 12, or 13.2???

yea, i deffinately dont want to go past the 9... and for my purposes i think the 7 would be the cheaper route because i want have to get a new gas block plus new front sights...getting the 7 would save me at least 200 bucks
