I have a dpms 204 barrel that I am installing on a high rise upper with free float tube.  When I install the barrel nut I can not get the gas rod hole to line up.  One hole will line up but only at 75% hand tight, and i will not be able to tighten it enough to make the next hole.  Any suggestions, shims?

I have had similar problems. Try torqueing down several times. On and off. Use a little lubracant. Gun grease. On threads. Are you useing a torque wrench. And to what have you it set to? I had a problem with a DD barrel ring On a RRA upper. Finaly made a shim out of copper wire to get the gas hole to alian up. But try torqueing down then off. See if that helps.
