Those "IDF" type M4's really are nice... great weight, balance, handling, simplicity, etc. I really like mine but I did upgrade the stock and pistol grip. I think you will find the more you use it, the more you will appreciate it.

I really like mine. I remember your post asking about which color. Mike |

I was wondering the same? Great looking rifle |

acr1,
What type of finish did you use on it? Can't go wrong with a 'K.I.S.' design. Looks good. |

There is an extra "nut" extension behind the flash hider. A mod like this is available at ar15barrels.com. |

First, thank you all for the positive comments. The flash hider is a standard A1 unit with the rear portion of another flash hider and part of a peel washer added to it to get the needed length. It was appropriately tightened down and then blind pinned to make it legal. The finish is Norrel's Moly Resin. Here is a closer picture of the hider.

cool thread, working on my own inbred IDF/KISS lightweight precision A2. Just waiting for a DSG 2-point sling
Here my list, upper built by salsantini CMT upper receiver coated by Norrell's in OD Moly Resin.CMT carry handle done the same. RRA stainless midlength 16" Wilson 223 air gauged, wylde chamber. barrel turned down to a Ultra Light profile by Kurt's Kustom. .625 behind the front sight base & .570 in front of the sight base, A2 hider Calvary OD midlength handguards. CMT MP bolt. Leitner-Wise bolt carrier. Badger Ordnance Tactical latch. RRA lower with M4 stock I built it for my boys to use. They need to learn irons before they get spoiled with optics. I'll post pixs once its done, if anyone wants to see |

If I hadn't run across a fluted carbine barrel while looking for an M4 barrel, that's just what I was going for. Nice looking weapon! I still plan on a KISS carbine, but it will no longer be an IDF clone, although I'm still using the Israeli sling I bought! The KISS A1 carbines and SBRs I've seen here are definitely my favorite ARs. Nice work!

All those rifles look nice...
but I think that's the problem with them that takes away from the IDF feel... They are a little too nice... All the IDF rifles look beat to hell.... like true truck/beater guns. Defintely digging the KISS vibe though... |

That is a great looking setup.
I want something similar except with a CMMG 14.7" M4A1 barrel and Surefire flash hider so I can use my can. |

Here's my Keep it simple light weight.
I threw the scope on there for the heck of it since my eyesight isn't the greatest. Has an IDF sling now not pictured. Light weight upper from Del-Ton, Stag lower. The weight really surprised me. Never realized how much weight all that "stuff" added to my other AR's. |

are the real IDF guns XM177s or CAR15s that have been rebarreled? since I noticed the A1 uppers?
BTW- all of those are nice guns. |

Concerning AR-15's:
After 4 years and $8,000 you'll decide to get back to basics. |
Any idea if that double-flash hider idea is square enough to the bore ot safely mount a Halo or Omni supressor? Will one of those even fit over it properly? |

I had no idea this thead was still going! I thought I would look at it again today and found that several other people have posted pictues of some great looking Kiss rifles. I have had mine to the range twice and really like it. I haven't tried to put it on paper for groups yet, but it seems to be quite accurate from the shooting I have done. This type of simple rifle really is quite appealing. The compact size and light weight make it a joy to carry and shoot.
I have no idea about this one since I have never used a supressor. I don't see why it wouldn't be just as square to the bore as any other flash hider. |

Well this thread was so inspiring I had to have one of my own. Here's my story: I wanted a carbine that could be light weight and still potent. I was building a superlight, but after seeing this thread my build took a new direction. I get everything I wanted: a lightweight rifle, looks good, and is very simple and practical. It didn't hurt that I have an Israeli fetish! Here's my result:
I am going to change out the lower with a Superior Arms lower. The Stag logo just doesn't look right on this rifle. |

I just finished putting it together and adding the IDF touches. It looks way better than the Stag lower. That Stag lower I am going to save for a hunter/varmint rifle build. The color match isn't very good with the C7/A1 upper but that's just fine with me. It looks more "correct." |

Y'know, as much as I like the look of all the 'gear', these really speak to me.
I do have a few questions, though: 1) What are those forearms and stock 'wraps'? 2) What would be considered 'IDF touches'? |
|
|
Tag and such!

1) They are elastic bands that I have been told are used to help with grip and stability. Stability meaning making sure the handguards don't come of and like on my stock, to make sure it has tension. They do provide excellent grip. 2) IDF touches to me is adding of the A1 pistol grip and the A1 flash hider. An M4 barrel on an A1 upper is also very IDF-ish. mvician has the mag holder. I need that yet. Also adding the flat delta ring is a must for any true IDF clone. Don't forget the IDF sling and paracord to attach it. I went through as many pics as I could find and I put together what I believe is a very accurate clone. |

Thanks for the info. Where can I get those bands, or are they home-made? |

All the upgraded guns in IDF service were reconfigured 653s. Generally the most obvious thing is the rebarrel, I don't think I ever saw a picture of a complete reupper. However, various things were changed, even including the addition of A2 pistol grips, though the modified 6-position stocks are probably the least obvious. I'm pretty sure all of these transitional weapons, including the ultra-short Mekutz'rar carbines have all been phased out in favor of factory 733s and true M4-types. |
