I was curious as to when the M16s came out ith a 14.5" barrel?  It seems to me that a friend of mine used to have a 14.5 AR back in the 80's.  Although it was a pencil barrel without  the M203 tapered part.  Do I remember correct?  I know it was much shorter than a 16"  He bought the barrel at a gun show way back when.  I know he did not have it shortened.  Yes he had it registered as SBR.
Thanks

The first 14.5" bbl came out on the 653 and 655 carbines in 1973, IIRC
