I'm going to be buying my first upper soon, and have a question on rifling.

I understand that 1/7 is suited to stabilize heavier bullets, however, will it still stabilize lighter ones such as the 55gr bullets? Or do I lose the ability to use that lighter ammo?

I've read the ammo oracle on this and I wasn't quite grasping it. I'd like to her your real world experiences. Thanks!

You can shoot anything in the 1/7 twist just fine.  I shoot 40 grain Noslers in mine for woodchucks.

Cheers,

Phil

Read that.  Hell, read the whole page.  Lots of excellent info there.

Short answer: Yes you will be able to shoot 55gr fine.

Edit: some light bullets (40-50 grains) might be twisted apart due to very thin jacketing, while others work just fine.  Be careful.
