Hello Team ARFCOM,
I just wanted to give everyone a heads-up about some articles coming up that may be of interest. I just finished a piece on the EBR subsonic ammo and documented its performance utilizing AR type rifles as delivery platforms.
This stuff is excellent in accuracy, sound and penetration. I was very impressed and you may be too.
Something you may be particularly interested in is that the shooting I did with the EBR 5.56x45mm Ultra Stealth was with an AR Type rifle I built not long ago and call the "CritterGetter" This rifle was built only out of the desire to clean up some of my spare parts pile. It is as mismatched and ugly as can be. I had enough parts lying around to put the entire rifle together without buying anything. It has a 14-inch 1/9 free-floating barrel with a full-length handguard. It is an old SP1 upper receiver that is marked with an electric pencil from a PD inventory. It uses an A2 stock with cheek piece and an original Tasco 3x9 Rubber Armored Scope from a Colt Delta H-Bar. It uses a Harris Bipod attached at the "shooting end" of the handguard and it is finished with a TAC-ORD MS556 sound suppressor.
The first 3-shot group I fired with the Ultra Stealth at 50-yards measured an amazing .300 inches. Just in case it was a fluke, I immediately went to the 100-yard board and fired a 3-shot group measuring .330 inches. When someone tells you that a semi can't be accurate, you just remember that the ugly old "CritterGetter" shows us there is hope after all.
The EBR ammo article is going to be in the June issue of SAR and in the July issue of SAR I have scheduled a complete, photographic, step-by-step process of making the "CritterGetter" look good. You can see it in its "before" and current look above. I'll be doing the DuraCoat Urban DigiFlage process on it so it can look as nice as it shoots. If a monkey like me can make this ugly collection of parts look good, anyone should be able to use the Lauer DuraCoat with excellent results. We will know very soon. More to follow.......
Just in case there are any 7.62 folks here I have a test on the Vector Arms V51 SBR coming out in the May issue of SAR. It is a nice gun and I am afraid I am becoming attached..........
Anyway, I hope you are enjoying the magazine. Keep the great ideas coming and thanks for all the nice words I read here at the ARFCOM site.
Most Sincerely,
Jeff Z
