If I can con Bill Alexander out of a 14.5" in your namesake w/o a perm attached flash suppressor, I'm going to be building one of them up to T&E for a few local PDs that are admiring the price tag. Thanks for the kind words guys... Believe me when I say, you ain't seen nothin' yet! |

When did CMT start making 6.8 bolts? What 6.8 mags are those that'll take a Ranger plate? Good looking gun!
Those are actually 5.56 mags. The ammo can with the PRI mags was in my car, the one with 5.56 mags was in the Hummer. The car was outta gas, the Hummer wasn't, so when I got in I saw an ammo can in the back and assumed... Well, you know what happens when you assume It made for a really short day at the range! I'll get some 200-300 yard results up, time permitting. Oh yeah, CMT has been making 6.8 bolts for a while (at least 2 or 3 months) now. Thanks for the compliments! |

You realize, Vltor makes tan recoil pads for their stocks now... dont you!?
Wow, looks awesome! I have some 6.8 stuff coming in to the job tomorrow. We got a bunch of the new Hornady ammo in too. I planed on using the Troy flash suppressor on the ones Im making for work as well! I dont have my own 6.8 yet, but I plan to have some fun building a few for others... I do, however, have a 6.8 barrel and bolt on order from LMT for my MRP! |
Look at the top rail in the first pic, you can see the Surefire mount pretty clearly. |
Doh thanks. Viking Tactics mount? |
that is crazily sexy. I dont care for the 6.8spc caliber but that rig is pimpin'
EDIT: bot to hijack but does Magpul make a recoil pad for their M93B? B/c there are some threaded holes in the buttplate perfect for attaching a recoil pad. |
That's pretty damn cool looking and it sounds like it's capable of some pretty impressive groups!
Congrats! |
Nah, it's a Surefire Scout with an M76 offset mount. It's mounted on the 12:00 rail, and it's offset to my non-dominant side. Check that little SF large head screw underneath the SPR-E mount? That's it. I'll get some better pics tomorrow. While not exactly true to the name (it started out on paper as a 10.5" 5.56 w/ a DD RAS and a VLTOR stock, now it's just a shorty AR meant for certain people) I think it's pretty cool if you think about where the name came from. Since the 6.8 is a major car-punching SOB compared to the 5.56, I think it's a better mousetrap for folks in that field. But hey, I'm biased. |

Man......you could hand out a hurting with that puppy!!
I really like it, looks great! |
Awsome!!!
Throw an Aimpoint on there and I would take that into the house in a heartbeat!!! hmmm...ideas for a future build...thanks! |
Looks pretty good and seems to shoot as well, Capn'. Are you planning on any of the 110/115gr OTMs? Also, I look forward to a 6.5G evaluation (and DocGKR's report) on a 16" or shorter 6.5G. It is like one of those itchs, you can't scratch enough. |
Thx IM or email me when you get ready to build and I'll release the tech package to you. It was made with guys in your profession in mind. I forgot to add what's so special about this... It's a midlength gassed 12" barrel, the next iteration will use a 0.5" longer Mike Rock barrel with a slightly smaller gasport. Yojimbo, I have a project inspired by Kurosawa named the "Yojimbo" as well... I think I might IM you some pics and info, as I believe you might enjoy it. |
Pete, just waiting on Vyse to get more gel out and I'll report back on the 115 grain OTM. The 110 is lower on the list, but not very far. When it comes to the Grendel, the main attraction is the price, and the possibility that the new SP load by Wolf might be a good performer against auto glass. We'll know soon enough. |

Capn, you say it's an SBR with a middy? Now I'm really intrigued. That sucker needs a 6.5 Grendel clone!
Just to confirm, you're talking a 9.5" "mid-length" gas-port position, right? If so, how much barrel do you have left fore of the gas-block? (I guess the math is 12" bbl minus 9.5" port position, but the missing figure is the length of your gas block.) And what should the gas-port diameter be? I love that build: love the Vltor clubfoot and the rest of the furniture in tan or FDE or whatever it is, love the LaRue stuff, love the S&B, love the Troy sights. That's just a very, very solid machine and, no doubt, a useful tool. Good job! John |

Cap, that 29 oz. optic is all the more reason for a slickside upper and a PRI tube with an alloy nut.
I think I am forming a plan. |
Thanks, from you, that means a lot! How's that URX workin' out for ya |
I just built another 6.8SPC off a CMMG mid-length upper, I am going w/ as LaRue mount w/ a 3.5X10 Tactical. Drop me an IM and let me know how yours has worked out. Thanks
Very sweet.
I have postponed numerous 6.8 projects. I am planning on a 12.5" gas piston setup - but... SimplyD - you dont need the Aimpoint with the ShortDot |
URX gun is ticking like a clock, never a malfunction and close to 3k through it in just months. I cant think of a thing I'd want to change, but still wantt o get a vert grip for it. Just have to find a KAC one in that dark earth color!
