I use Hoppes #9, it seems to work a little better than CLP, but that is my experiences only.

I recently started to clean ALL of my guns with non-chlorinated brake cleaner. It works wonders, give it a try, I promise you'll be satisfied.

I like MPro-7. A bit pricey, but it's non-toxic and works well on carbon.

I use Kroil. let it soak for a few hours and just wipe it off.

I really like the Slip2000 carbon cutter.
Most carbon whipes off and a little brush action gets the rest off. |

I've found that Hoppe's doesn't really do a very good job of rough carbon. It's fine for barrel fouling, but for stuff like revolver cylinder faces, it doesn't do much at all.

Slip 2000 works good; use it often. I'd suggest using Shooter's Choice (with a less expensive version being GM Top Engine Cleaner) as a much better alternative than using Hoppe's #9.

+1....I get it at Advance Auto Parts, and it's fairly cheap. I hose down the bolt and carrier after shooting, then lube it all up with CLP and reassemble. Works great. |

I heard from the slip2000 folks. Turns out FedEx home delivery takes 7-10 business days. Don't know why the hell it costs $10 then, but whatever. At least they replied quickly and were polite. |

I went to their page and saw the black bolt turn silver. Is that what it's suppose to do? If so, I want my bolt black, not silver. Or am I wrong?

I supply students with Butch's bore shine in needle oiler bottles. Seems to be the best combination I've used so far. The Butch's from Brownells is slightly discounted and comes with no hassle. It works on carbon and copper fouling so you have just the one cleaner for your whole weapon.

I don't clean with it ...... I drink it while I scrap off the carbon. Some advice: Dont drink the beer before you shoot or carbon won't be your biggest problem. |

Equal parts of acetone, mineral spirits, kerosene and transmission fluid. Works for me and cheap to make.
