I know that I will be opening a big can of worms here, but I am considering getting my 16" post ban M4 config bbl cut to 14.5" and having a perm flashhider attached. Which gives the best performance for the $ in terms of:

1.effectiveness in reducing flash
2. No degradation in Accuracy
3. Cool look factor

Thanks for your input.

I have a phantom that looks and preforms great.

This is one of the most effective flash-HIDERS I have ever seen. (WWII vintage)

That said I think your asking about flash-suppressors.

In that regard the G6 Vortex is #1, with the Phantom a close second.

Mike

ETA - here's a pic of the Phantom like I have on one of my 14.5" w/ perm FS barrels, (theother has the Vortex)

Note: not my pic and no my crush washer is installed correctly, unlike the pic above which has it backward....

I concur with Mr Wilson.

Vortex the best, with the Phantom comming in a close second for effectiveness.  For looks I prefer the Phantom 5C2 (that saw tooth looking one in the photo).

I suggest you go to Yankee Hill Machine's website and look at the Phantom 5C1 Flash Hider:

Or the Phantom 5C2 :

No downward ports to blow dirt on your line of sight, doesn't snag on branches or foliage and works well.

Or get the Vortex from Smith Enterprises; though the concensus of most shooters is that the Phantom is more popular; but that's my take on it.

And just how does my choice fall below #3?!?  Which is the reason I but it up! And as for falling below #1 and #2 that is your opinion. Your opinion I am sure is based on facts so don't get all upset! I am just trying to give the guy as many options as possible. Then he can make up his own mind up a bought what he wants him self.

See testing of FS here: silencertests.com/flash.htm

Mike

ps - I was referring to the fact that the "cool" factor generally swings the Phantom way.....

Whats the deal with the YHM-28?

Most people seem to agree that the Phantom and Vortex are among the best flash supressors out there, and testing seems to indicate that they are very similar in thier flash supression capabilities.

Because the Phantom is significantly less expensive than the Vortex, many people prefer it.

IIRC, this is the Phantom with the "closed" bottom for kicking up less dust, than say the 5 port model I showed above....

Sorry got it backward the YHM28 is the old style WITHOUT the closed bottom, as shown above, the newer ones all have the closed bottom.

I wasent debating the fact that Vortex/Phantom have great flash suppression! But I just don't see how the COOL factor goes to the Phantom! But that's just me as I want a more Mil looking FH! -John

5C1 or 5C2, that closed bottom port is priceless when shooting prone.  Serves as a compensator & reduces flash at the same time.  IMHO it's the best muzzle device out there.

The Vortex is very nice....until you shoot prone and put a cloud of dust/sand in your eyes.
