They haven’t been released yet but they appear to be based on the (discontinued) Bushmaster rifle. That rifle had problems with the bolts breaking. To get the things to work with FAL magazines Bushmaster had to remove a locking lug on the barrel extension and that puts some heavy stresses on the bolt.

RRA might have fixed the problem, no one knows for sure yet. The only way we will know is when several people buy production rifles and put a few thousand full powered rounds downrange.

If the problem is fixed then I know what next years tax refund is going to be spent on. But I want to actually see some independent tests first.

Why is the mag release on the "wrong" side of the receiver?

Contrary to popular belief, this common assumption is false. There never was a locking lug deleted, and the bolt breakage issues were caused by other issues. Bushmaster had an indent in the tail of the bolt, which was very prone to breakage. From what I've seen, this flaw is responsible for about 95% of the bolt failures. In most of the cases, the bolt still continued to function.
